Do you think that some things are unforgivable or do you think that some people should be given a second chance at forgiveness if they're genuinely sorry for the wrong doings that they did?

Some things are unforgivable. It depends on how the victim wants it to be.

Some things may seem unforgivable. The basic idea for the individual is will you feel like a fool to forgive or will you actually be a fool to forgive? This is our driver at the basic level. If you know it will only happen again maybe you should not forgive and just part ways. Whatever you do, drop the drama. Nobody needs drama.

Depends on what they did , and what kind of forgiveness they expect . Saying your sorry , to the parents of a child you intentionally murdered , doesn't equal a free get out of jail card .

Every story is different

Everyone deserves a second chance. Some deserve a 5th or 20th chance. Life's not cookie cutter patterns. Sometimes it's really messy before it gets better.
It's up to the forgiveie to decide who gets another chance or not.
Good luck

I don’t think that forgiveness is a conscious decision. Personal forgiveness is intrinsic. There are no forgiveness police. Totally a personal response. Any internal/external disparity causes conflict. If you find yourself forgiving that’s great. If not, that’s great as well.

Christianity will probably tell you to forgive but that’s a control mechanism to attempt to adhere you to their tropes when coupled with guilt if you can’t.

It's all relative. For me, there are unforgivable things. For someone else, forgiveness is always an option. There is no right answer here though. However someone feels is valid, unless it's something that's completely unjustifiable. Even then, it's still how they feel.

Anyone can be better and do better, even shitty people can do good. We all make choices, and can choose to be better and to do right, even if we have done harm in the past... and we all have done harm in the past. It's about not continuing to harm in the future.

That doesn't mean that those who have been harmed need to forgive or give someone a second or third or fourth chance. Nor does it mean you need to welcome the person who has done harm, nor forget what they did. There's a difference between allowing someone the chance to prove they have chahged and pretended they never fucked up in the first place.

The OP asked is there some things that are unforgivable; I definitely think there are harms that can never be undone or made up for. However I also still feel that even the worst perpetrators can choose to do different in the future, although sometimes those choices may be very difficult to achieve and the person wanting to be better may come against nearly insurmountable barriers to being a better person (such as in cases where the harm is facilitated by addiction). They may need help to be better, and it may be that there are few who are willing to help and able to.

In the end, even if I am wrong I feel like it serves us best to choose to believe that everyone can be better.
I also like to put myself In their shoes, and think what I might do in such an experience, where I had been the one who did that harm. Now what?

I think the unforgivable sin is murder. Everything else can be forgiven.

I think sometimes murder is justifiable.
Some people need killing.

I also don't believe in "sin".

@vjohnson51 Depends on the subject, and the motives behind it.

Hurting children cannot be forgiven. One act should the final nail in the coffin. I want these acts to deserve death penalty.

Man is him and his circumstances.

Yes. Some bad things are forgiveable if genuinely sorry and it was truly out of character. But it should take time. They owe you a lot of that.

Forgiveness is always possible.

Several years ago I wrote a two page long paper called Why Should We Forgive? In it, I stated that forgiveness is for those things which are unforgivable. Only one guy had anything negative to say about it. Maybe I'll put it up here later.

The American government is separating children from their parents and not keeping track of where the parents are. They are physically and sexually abusing those children so that some Republicans can make over $700 per child per day. I will never forgive America for this. I will never ever forgive America for this.
