Lots of comments on the El Paso Walmart shooting

Charlotte Clymer??????
I'm from Texas. Here are some of our gun laws:
-- NO state permit required to purchase
-- NO firearm registration
-- NO owner license required
-- NO assault weapon law
-- NO magazine capacity restriction
-- NO background check required for private sales

Shopping malls. Festivals. Movie theaters. Schools. Places of worship. Night clubs. The list is far too long.
Our heart breaks for El Paso. For every community torn apart by gun violence. For the children lost. And their parents.
The House has taken action. Senate, do your job.

Eugene Gu, MD
A 21-year-old murdered at least 20 people at an El Paso Walmart yet no amount of social media outrage will change anything unless we hold gun manufacturers financially responsible, bankrupt these evil corporations, and toss out the government officials who don’t even give a damn.

Alyssa Milano
THIRD MASS SHOOTING THIS WEEK. BETWEEN 15-20 SHOT IN TODAY’S SHOOTING AND MCCONNELL WON’T BRING #HR8 UP FOR A VOTE.
Tell me again how the @GOP is “pro-life” when they won’t vote for a bill-that already passed the house-which would make the country safer from gun violence. #NoRA

Elizabeth Warren
The news out of El Paso is devastating. I'm heartbroken for the victims and their families. Far too many communities have suffered through tragedies like this already. We must act now to end our country's gun violence epidemic.

George Takei
In the wake of yet another mass shooting, this time inside a Wal-Mart in El Paso with multiple fatalities,
@Walmart is expressing “shock.” You know what? Do more. Show responsibility and leadership. Halt the sale of firearms and ammunition at your stores nationwide.

Shannon Watts
Reminder: Texas law allows the open carry of semiautomatic rifles and does not require a background check, training or an age limit. Walmart also allows open carry.
Lawmakers and companies are not protecting their constituents or their customers.

Why does anyone need a semi-automatic weapon to shoot snakes and birds and whatever you fancy for tea. Seems a bit like overkill to me.

Everyone wants either more laws or no laws apparently neither approach is working.

Here's and idea STOP TEACHING HATE, FEAR AND DESPAIR. We are not born with all the emotions that these shooters express in their writings or web postings.
The increase in gun violence IMHO is directly related to our elected officials who are leading the nation down a road of hate, NON-christian valves (FUCK their tots and preyers) and divisiveness. It started with Newt Gingrich, bill graham, rush limbaugh. Alex jones picked up the banner and really put crazy on the map. Both sides are extreme but I hear the anger and hate louder from right wing talk radio.

@daylily Actually until we demilitarize the police I'm quite happy allowing POC to own assault weapons. It's white males doing all these mass shootings. The answer is stop preaching hate and fear. You won't get a ban until you get big corporate out of our government.

@daylily I know we had a ban and there were less shootings but remember bush had everyone riled up over Muslim terrorists and there was less focus on the non-muslim POC.

Nothing will change. Just another shooting.

As an outsider...can I just offer my condolences to you for this tragedy. I’m bewildered at this gun culture you have in America...it is incomprehensible to me, but I can’t offer any solutions, only my sadness.

I agree completely Marion.

Will gun violence be an easy problem to solve? Of course not.
Will there be a single solution? No
Will there still be tragedy and death? Yes.
But does any of that mean we shouldn't try to do SOMETHING?

Chris Murphy
To my colleagues - get off your ass and do something.
Stop pretending like your only responsibility is to offer sympathy.
You got elected to fix things. And this is fixable. But not if all you do about this is tweet.

Walmart is not a gun-free zone. Some customers said they were armed. Yet at least 19 Walmart shoppers were killed, dozens more were injured, and the shooter was taken into custody without being shot.

Leader McConnell
The entire nation is horrified by today's senseless violence in El Paso. Elaine's and my prayers go out to the victims of this terrible violence, their families and friends, and the brave first responders who charged into harm’s way.
Stephen King
This is on you. You should be charged as an accomplice in these deaths.

City of El Paso has for months been fighting with Trump’s 2020 re-election committee to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid police & public safety bills in connection with a Trump campaign rally there this winter: (link: [publicintegrity.org] publicintegrity.org/federal-politi…

Donald J. Trump
Terrible shootings in ElPaso, Texas. Reports are very bad, many killed. Working with State and Local authorities, and Law Enforcement. Spoke to Governor to pledge total support of Federal Government. God be with you all!

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
We can no longer bear to see gun violence & mass shootings continue as a norm in America.
How many deaths to gun violence could have been preventable with responsible gun safety laws? How many children would still have their mothers?
Enough. It’s way past time we act.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
If you’re just as sick of gun violence as an American reality, it’s time to get organizing.

This is Glen Oakley.
He was in the Foot Locker when the El Paso shooting happened. When he ran to leave, he saw kids in the mall without their parents, scared and alone.
So he picked up as many as he could and carried them to safety
KNOW HIS NAME!

You've covered many important issues. Thanks! Why do so many people in Texas get all GOOEY when they strap on an ''open carry'' weapon? Is it the sick desire to play COWBOY? Is it some kind of phallic symbol? Clearly, those ''open carry'' people in WalMart weren't much help, were they?

@LucyLoohoo according to some interviews, there were gun carrying people in that WMart and yet none stepped up now did they. Makes the argument about carrying a gun for safety even less impressive. Maybe the repucks will pass a law saying gun owners must respond in such a crisis - hah.

@Beowulfsfriend HAH! Then...every trip to Target could turn into the freaking GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL? I did think it was interesting that, in Texas...NOBODY indulged their "I'm a hero gunslinger" blood lust/fantasy!

@LucyLoohoo Reality is that waving your gun around in a gunfire situation is likely to get you killed by police or other would-be "good guys with guns." So there's hardly ever a situation where open-carry makes sense.

@jerry99 Oddly enough, all those ''cowboy wanna- bes'' don't seem to understand that.
