Breastfeeding mom prompts Ohio cafe customer to call cops, shop owner says

[foxnews.com]

The person who complained to the police was a woman. Ladies, can you please help me understand why women find this offensive. It has been beyond me to understand that women/mothers should find it worth complaining about. Why was this offensive to the woman? I have not seen men complaining (may be they have). But what is it in our culture that makes us complain?

I think that motherhood is one of the most beautiful experiences and roles created by mother nature. I grew up in a rural society overseas where breastfeeding mothers were adored no matter where. I could have never imagined that we would stoop this low.

Why I hated nursing in public. I tried to avoid it when I could, even pumping. It didn't help being a plus-sized, large-chested mom. To nurse, I had to sit with little one's head on my lap. Not easy to be discreet when you're that big on top. I managed but never ever enjoyed nursing in public. I was always afraid of a confrontation. Thankfully my girls are well past the nursing stage.

Its offensive that police have to respond to such petty nonsense!

I think the police respond to the potential of the situation escalating rather than the pettiness.

@Science-guy that would make sense. Community policing is one thing but the merest of misdemeanours would be seen as a waste of resources both practical and pecuniary I would have thought.

Yeah, I don't care if women breastfeed in public or if anyone runs around naked in public. One time, while at a university field trip, the professor's 2.5 year old daughter ran into the lecture room where we were all seated listening to the professor speak and this child demanded to be fed. The professor immediately lifted her sweater and breastfed her daughter in front of all of us while continuing her lecture. It was a bit weird, and though we might have felt a bit uncomfortable, nobody complained.

I couldn't care less if someone is breastfeeding in public. Although when they make a huge production of it lime they're saints about to perform open heart surgery i find that behavior obnoxious. But that isn't the breast feeding, it's the holier than thou, look how awesome i am, entitlement thing.

My wife breast fed our three children, in public when we were out. I am talking about 20 or more years ago when it was not even a considered activity. Yes, she got some dirty looks, but we didn’t f’n care. 😎

@Science-guy I don't care about the breast feeding, I have a giant family and all the women breast feed. It is the ones who make a production out of it and behave as though they're suddenly mother nature and the buddha all rolled into one.

@CommonHuman agreed. Subtle is the way to go. We used a baby blanket to obscure the feeding.

In Canada, a woman can walk down the street topless if she so chooses. Most do not, but they have the right. 😎

Possibly a bit cold at those latitudes?

@Geoffrey51 yes, on occasion it can be a bit nippy.

Idk, I don't personally care to see someone's tits flopping around, mostly because I just think it's showing too much if yourself. I feel the same way about crop tops or barely there bathing suits. I think it's more fun to discover what someone looks like under their clothes than to just immediately know.

However, when it comes to breast feeding, it really doesn't matter to me. By all means, feed the child. If that means being full on topless, then do you. It's just as easy for me to look away as it is for them to cover up. It's not my place to dictate what other people do and I'd certainly never try.

But men are ok to walk showing too much of themselves?

@Science-guy No, sex doesn't matter to my opinion. It goes all ways.

The complainer was obviously a prudish evangelical. That is the only answer.

I never quite understood why a bare breasted woman causes such a furor when a man can walk around shirtless and no one takes notice. I guess it is because woman's breasts are sexualized and a man's chest isn't. It is just one more stupid ideation that has taken over.

Breast fed all three of mine as did my sister and my Mum. Thats what boobs are for.

Idiots who can't mind their own business, and actively choose to be offended by every little thing.
Women like that give us all a bad name.

The culture of complainers.

Exactly ! They're offended by EVERYTHING!

You're thinking it was likely a Boomer then?

@AlPastor More likely a Trump supporter. They're not exactly known for tolerance.
