Should this be done? Change the words of the sonnet on the Statue of Liberty? [facebook.com]
Absolutely, some former cultural norms often need to be revised to meet changing conditions. We should also get rid of the birthright citizenship and curtail the program of chain migration (and especially the crazy one of lottery immigration). The one big problem we face today is that the immigration policy has become extremely polarized and the polarization is based mostly on emotion. A policy that brings in millions of non-citizens and which end up increasing our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions needs to be about evidence based reason and regulated. My late partner was an immigrant who worked hard to get her citizenship and totally agreed that our natural life forces must come above all else (her question to her 2nd graders: "What's more important people or dirt" speaks to this). The policy should not be based on people but a policy in which all, immigrants and citizens alike, must live.
Also, when a country has a policy of importing poor and huddled masses the country becomes one in which poverty becomes rampant. We are loosing the middle class and becoming a country that is also polarized in this regard.

If they’re what I think you’re referring to … they should never have been allowed to be placed there in the first place. And yes, unless we want to decimate the last bits of nature within the US portion of N. America … and begin to enjoy the standard of living most are fleeing.. It’s time to change our tune & tone.
