I have an entire database that tracks how long mainstream media covers mass shootings. It's insane how quickly the news cycle moves away from coverage.
The Las Vegas Massacre was covered a mere 9 days before MGM got involved, threatened to pull all advertising from mainstream media that continued coverage, and that was that. Once it was determined that there was NO clear motive, radio silence. (A sporadic blip about funerals, a 20/20 piece on citizen heros, and it was a wrap.)
Here is how insignificant El Paso and Dayton were:
31 people died in El Paso, Dayton mass shootings. Twitter data shows talk faded in just 10 days.

Familiarity breeds contempt, or in he case of news boredom.
Many are becoming desensitized... Especially the news people... They see it more often than anyone else... And they don't show emotion when reporting these horrible news stories.
No real change there. Two ancient proverbs of the press:
If it bleeds, it leads.
Today's news is tomorrow's fish wrap.
Public outrage only lasts as long as the average attention span!
El Paso shooter mom begged cops to investigate...COVERED UP
Russian women sex trafficking in Las Vegas covered up
ADELSON and zionism money laundering in Las Vegas COVERED UP
True fake news is only interested in advertising dollars not our right to know.....Las Vegas multiple shooters and gun running COVERED UP
Headline of the day, then move on to the next calamity.
Media giants definitely cheapen lives lost, because they favor their profit margin above real democracy. Such petty motives they protect.
