Hi everyone, I've recently joined trying to meet like-minded people.
You've come to a good place in which to do so. I've been enjoying this site for some time now.
Try selecting "browse" and then comments. Read them, and feel free to join and add your thoughts. Until we get to know you better, your comments will be vetted for approval, which is how scammers are discouraged.
Now dive right in!
I too was a US expat for 15 years. But not to such a warm climate.
So you're the reason Trump wants that wall, are you??
@Petter oh I am sure if he knew my politics he would use me as the poster child of unpatriotic threats!
@Petter, @JackPedigo Where were you hiding out? What made you return?
A big part of me yearns to return. But I have healthcare FREE FOR LIFE and live very well on very little!
@BajaSusana I too have free health care for life, valid anywhere within the European union. I also have a state pension from Spain, where I have lived for 32 years.
Southern Spain is also a cheaper place to live than most other parts of Western Europe.
@BajaSusana The view from my house in Mojacar. Unfortunately, two months ago I had to cut down the lovely Norfolk Island Pine tree, as its roots had invaded the sewer.
@Petter The EU is far advanced when it comes to social programs and quality of life. Mexico is progressing, but we have a new populist president.
I have been waiting a year for my widow's pension.
Moved from the beach to a hillside location. This is aour third home here.the view is ever changing. We had the outer bands of a tropical storm sending us wind and cloud and a little rain. The Orange photo is sunrise yesterday, and the blue is early evening same day.
@BajaSusana Actually, I was not hiding. After my stint in the military I went to a place that fascinated me (Europe-Germany) and stayed. I fell in love with the old city of Heidelberg, built my own apartment had (and lost) 2 relationships and experienced some amazing things. I found a job with the University of Maryland European Division (they just put out a eye opening video which I have shared). The fall of the Soviet Union, troubles with a slumlord and a partner's increasing alcoholism told me the time was up so I left. It turned out it was the right decision as I am now in a much better place.
I am a disabled (slightly) Viet Nam war retiree so healthcare is not an issue. I like to say I am an introvert living in an extremely extroverted community.
Why Baja and what led you there?
@BajaSusana An enjoyable view indeed. Being from Kenya I love clear skies with dawn and sunset colours.
In Mojacar I have mountain views in one direction, sea views in the other.
A view of my house, and two photos of views. (The middle photo is the wrong one, but I can't delete it!)
@BajaSusana Here's an arial view of one side of my house, instead.
Hello and welcome. I see you’re from Bournemouth...there are a few Brits here, I live in Northern Ireland. Just browse and get used to the site, join a few groups, and just generally join in. I’ve been here over a year now, and find it great fun. Most of the others here are from the USA and Canada, so it’s interesting to get a transatlantic view of things. Good luck.
