It is with a whole lot of irony I note that according to Luke, any contemporary, official record of the existence of Jesus is lacking because he wasn't registered during the census decreed by Caesar Augustus!

Luke was actually wrong about the census, but that's what happens when you write about things you weren't alive to chronical and are pushing an agenda.

That would technically make him an illegal alien, I guess. His people did supposedly emigrate to Egypt and back without going through Customs.

An ancient alien?

I'll beg to differ on that. According to Luke, it was a census of the world, which at the time was the Roman Empire that included a sweep of land and sea from Britton, Gaul, Iberia, all lands surrounding the Mediterranean, Aegean, and overland to the Black Sea. Free persons could be well traveled within the empire, thus people were ethnic, but not alien.

@RichE Since history, from what I recall reading, says there was no such census in the first place, why don't we just go with "The book of Luke is full of crap."

@Paul4747 but it is part of the literature which is taught in college ancient history courses. Just because it's fiction doesn't mean it's not history.

How did I get dragged into this?
