Well, just saw an old friend interact with a contractor. She treated him with confidence and respect, and then walked away and let him do his job. The exact opposite to how she treats me when I work for her. Like night and day. This is gonna take awhile to process. Thoughts?

Micromanaging/hovering NEVER brings out the best in anyone! Sad for you.....

Maybe the old saying “familiarity breeds contempt” may be applicable here, friendship sometimes blurs the lines when it comes to business. Presumably she only has a business relationship with the contractor and therefore is able to treat him on a purely professional basis....not so with you because you are also a friend. My husband had a policy of never doing business with friends or family, he was probably wise.

Charge her the same amount as the other contractors and treat her the same as other contractors. In other words act like a contractor.

@Druvius I've done electrical and automotive work for friends over the years business is business. And you're welcome.

Maybe she treats you as a friend differently in a work situation than she treats someone who is a contractor. There is probably no difference in your skills but maybe she puts a higher price tag for niceness on a contractor than a friend.

Why is she treating you differently?

In the past, did you do something that made her lose trust in you?
