I do not think many here really care what happens to their remains after they die. But suppose that you are cremated, and in your will you have one last chance to take your loved ones to somewhere wonderful they will enjoy, for the purpose of spreading the ashes of course. Where would you choose ?
I don't do conditional gifts - I'd never presuppose where to send them, or to ever require my ashes be taken anywhere (wouldn't be cremated, be composted anyways after usable organ harvesting was done) beyond standard disposal.
As far as I'm concerned (and after I'm dead there will be no capability for concern anyways) they can do what they like, or not, with any money I've left them.
My brother , whom I consider to be quite gross , informed his wife , at the time , that he want his body cremated , then he wanted them put in her douche bag , for one last ride . I strongly suspect it was comments like these that led to his divorce .
I’ve heard a similar one about being placed in a bowl of chili from Wendy’s.
I’ll leave the rest of the details to the imagination of others.
My sister and I we have a deal . She is also single and lives alone in Milan . We both are " pigs ", meaning , house work never has been our priority and will never be
She is a very busy doctor and someone cleans her house .
I am just an ED and trauma nurse and also a pig . Some how things get done around my house , and not always Bcz of me
Who ever goes first , is gonna be cremated and arrive to the other's house living room . I am sure will be me , I am older and a stress freak
My friends will spread my remains in her living room , and she will just have to vacuum and clean up after me
Cremation takes up less of Earth‘s Resources. Question, you really want to sacrifice trees or use composite materials to commemorate your time on earth? Take up land for your body that cannot return to nourish the Earth because or poisons put into your body before the burial process? Varnish and treat the wood of your coffin, so that the toxins from creating casket are pit into the ground? Why is this now seen as honorific? Because we appear to be royals after death? Ashes can be moved if family wants to transfer from one memorial site to another, or plant a tree with a stone (or without, choice) or put ashes in a place of beauty to be visited in love and in memory. Caskets, honestly, are a business. And personally, I think it’s kinda gross.
My mother wanted a burial, but she did go for a biodegradable rush casket and burial in a forest.
My kids know the drill. Cremate me and take me to Cedar Point, on the tallest coaster and let it fly at the top. When I checked last they will allow this before they open.
I would prefer to just have my body left out there in my woods or fields for scavengers. But my parents want all of us to be cremated at death and our ashes buried in the family burial plot. Ugh no. Why bury ashes??!??!! If I were to have my ashes scattered, may be among my previously passed pets in our pet burial area on my property. Otherwise, may be at a Lousiana bayou. But knowing how my family hates me, they'd probably just flush my ashes down the toilet.
Yes I would like to be left out for eating too, but I don't think its allowed here. Sad.
My late partner willed her body to a local university. She stipulated her ashes be put in a group area but I was able to get them. So the issue is with me not her as she didn't care and I think nor would I. Once I offered my daughter help with buying a home and she, being very independent refused. I asked her if I left her money in my will would she take it. Silence. I then said I want to help while I am alive so I can see the good it may bring (I have opened a generous 529 plan for my grandson). In my will my funds go toward groups I feel can make a difference for many (FFRF and like groups). My daughter, a christian, knows this and doesn't care.
20 years in the.... all in the East Coast... Spread my ashes in the Caribbean Sea, where I come from. I lost a daughter a 13 months ago... My daughter will have her ashes spread in a garden her mother is preparing for what should be her 34th Birthday... She was born in Puerto Rico... her mother will take care of that garden. I may come and visit her since I am moving back to Puerto Rico too. I will be there for the little intimate thing we along with her sister and brother will do. I wrote her a song... "To live on life".
Sorry for your loss.
@Fernapple Thank You.
My husband wanted an Irish Wake. So we had two. The one in Malibu involved a large boat that took the family and friends 2 miles out to spread the ashes.
As for me, I like to garden as naturally as possible. I have this peach tree...but I am told there are laws to prevent my use as fertilizer.
When I hike I love coming across the small, old forgotten cemeteries of those who died in the 19th century.
Pre-civil war we could just rejoin the earth as compost.
Our last thing after taking so much in life could be to give back in death...
That's sad, I do not think that there are any such laws in the UK. I put a bit of my father in the garden, though I also told the bowlers that I had put some on the bowling green, and therefore not to lick their fingers when they picked their bowls up, though I did not really put any down.
If my remaining family wants to spread my ashes they can do that at my grandparents old farm in the huzzah area outside of Steelville, Mo. They know this but what happens to my ashes is really up to them. In my mind i can imagine my oldest daughter being upset some day as she was cleaning or had an accident where she"spilled dad." Even the urn idea will be up to them but what about an urn with the words "if you need me just add water."
I would like for my ashes to be placed in a Bios Urn, along with a Lodgepole Pine seed, and buried on the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park.
one of the holes on the 2 golf courses where i got holes in one.
I’ll have them scatter my ashes into their bodies via a tea made from my ashes. The residual psychoactive chemicals will send them on quite the trip.
May I copy and repost, I really appreciate the kindness in your addressing the topic of cremation. So many people avoid discussion (self included), you wrapped it up nicely. So to speak, lol. I have many friends with religious leanings, But am trying to present more Earth-friendly ways of honoring our dead..
Please do.
When you die you are just a lump of decaying meat ... so my preference is to feed wolves, bears or big cats - any top predator, so part of me helps them survive.
No point harvesting any organs - all old, knackered and burnt out - there must be better than mine around
Me too but you have to be careful you do not give them a chemical high. LOL
