To not do something about climate catastrophe is risky according to Elizabeth Warren. Great response? What do you think of it? [twitter.com]
She's great - I've loved her work for years. Bernie/Warren were my dream team in 2016 and it infuriated me that the DNC sabotaged and then blocked him in favor of Hillary. Now I think it's the only hope we have.
The DNC did not sabotage Saint Bernie.
@BitFlipper And yet there are app. 20,000 DNC emails showing they did, including admission of such by the Chair. I don't think he's a saint (well, I don't think anyone's a saint) but I believe he's the antidote to the authoritarian predicament we find ourselves in.
@BitFlipper I know people who were delegates to the Convention and OH YES THEY DID!
@Lauren, @AnneWimsey I should know better than to challenge your deeply held beliefs.
I used to have a bumper sticker on my car that read, "I'm From the Elizabeth Warren Wing of the Democratic Party." Then Bernie Sanders announced his candidacy for president. Elizabeth Warren should have quickly endorsed Sanders. She didn't. She waited, she waited and she waited. She finally endorsed Hillary Clinton. So I lost all respect for Elizabeth Warren. Had she come out early and endorsed Sanders, she could have made a significant difference. I came to the conclusion that she is a fraud.
@BitFlipper I Knew delegates, and they were treated Shamefully the entire Convention....denied seating, especially together, because, "oops we opened your area to open seating"...every single day! Pat-down searches (because Bernie advocates violence????) every day for a proportion of his supporters Only. Random hang-up phone calls & door knocks every night? Coffee urns "empty" whenever a Bernie support asked for some? Yet magically back in business for a Hill supporterright behind them? Etc etc etc etc.....
How about listening to Bernie talking about it for Decades on YouTube? She took All her ideas from him, without attribution.....
@ToolGuy gee, I dunno...presenting ideas about OUR futures AS IF you thought of them sounds a lot like
I completely agree with her on this. I just wish that I could agree that she would stand a chance against Trump in the general election.
I tried to watch this clip 3 times and couldn't focus on her message because I find her voice and movements distracting.
I like Warren, but I find her voice weak and her presence unstable.
This could also be because she was easily persuaded to shift her support away from Bernie in 2016, and the policies she also supported. With the dangling carrot that, if she supported Hillary, the establishment would run Warren as her VP, she abandoned all her principles.
The Dems knew two women on the ticket would never beat Trump and they also knew it would help Clinton if Warren moved her support away from Bernie. They went with (centre right) wet sponge, Tim Kaine, and had this in mind all along. Now she's moved back over to the left.
What does she actually stand for? Beats me.
She took every idea she has directly from Bernie! Go to YouTube & see him, for decades, talking about this, and what we need to do!
@Athena Thank You! Well said!
@ToolGuy I do not condemn her, I just hope we get a better candidate than a shrill person without any ideas of her own.
@ToolGuy uuuhh, Bernie on YouTube for 3 Decades, consistent, full of actual Facts (how refreshing!!!) And ideas that were ridiculed at the time, but he stuck to his guns
I don't trust her like I trust Bernie and I do question her sincerity. People with integrity have high integrity standards for others. I would never compromise my convictions for notoriety or money.. there have been opportunities to do so. Warren is playing the politician game, while Bernie doesn't have an ounce of that in him. He is authentic to the core.
I would forgive Warren if she apologized or acknowledged that she screwed over Bernie, but she has done no such thing. Could you imagine Bernie abandoning an AOC type of candidate to run with Hillary? Clinton sabotaged his candidacy and Bernie still supported her. Why? Because he knew that, despite everything, Trump would ruin America. I don't trust Warren now and there's no regret on her part to suggest I should.
Take a big chunk of the military industrial budget and lead the world in renewables. It's the 21st century economy.
Does she have some proposal of what should be done? No .... because what needs to be done is not popular with voters
So iwith the current world system ... nothing of enough significance will be done ... until too late to be useful
@Haemish1 so USA will reduce emissions from housing cars industry etc to zero .... super.
The current world population is about 7 billion ... an averaging of forecasts predicts this will grow to 10 billion by 2050 ....if you increase the population by 50% you accordingly increase demand for food, power, water, travel, etc. Without population control there is no possibility of controlling global warming, pollution by plastic and other waste, degradation of world resources, mass extinction of plant and animal species ..... all those things that keep well intentioned western idealist environmentalists awake at night
@ToolGuy Firstly - I am in England where much of our manufacturing industry has already moved to eastern Europe or China due to imposition of 'green' taxes and regulations.
When you say 'the rest of the world is acting' I think you are being unduly optimistic of the effectiveness of whatever actions are being introduced.
Some simple actions
fitting solar panels on most houses across the US would make a major difference to power generation extra insulation of housing for hot and cold areas of the country .. aircon and heating reduced
Simple, easily introduced relatively inexpensive changes with a decent payback period.....there must be many more examples
@ToolGuy some business leaders have stated that the high cost of electricity (green taxed and subsidised for public), and costs for dealing with waste have made manufacturing in the UK uncompetitive .. hence forced to move. (some have taken key members of their workforce abroad too.
@ToolGuy hope you are ok with the implications of that ... you just closed down the
chemicals industry, so no more fertiliser for farms and reduced food production
oil refineries - so no more using petrol or diesel engines
etc
@ToolGuy you can - but shutting down an industry and replacing it with another causes major social challenges.
If you notice that you are about to drive off a cliff, of course it is dangerous not to do something about it.
