I thought all atheists were skeptics! Wow. Was I wrong. I'm kinda shocked at some of the knee-jerk responses I've gotten in questioning a matter the MSM hurried to declare "debunked". Several implied I'm crazy/ridiculous to even consider the matter further.
I don't trust ANYTHING MSM reports. I'm ESPECIALLY distrustful when the subject is something that implicates people in power positions.
The reaction has triggered the psychologist in me to contemplate reasons for such aversions in a broad minded, intelligent, skeptical circles such as this.
Is it just defense mechanism? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

People often bring these fantastic stories to me. What they may not realize is: I've heard these stories before. It may seem to them that I'm dismissing the story (the conspiracy theory) out if hand, without consideration. But NO - I do not reconsider the geocentric planetary theory every time I hear it. I'm familiar with the evolution of astronomy. There are NO UFO TUNNELS under Arizona, there were NO CRISIS ACTORS at the Newtown shooting, and there is NO PEDOPHILE RING run out of PINGPONG PIZZA in Washington.

Sadly, many if not most of us have replied to this poster with easily-verifiable facts and instead of looking into it, she has gone into attack mode. There's none so blind as those who refuse to see...or maybe I should make "see", "think"?

This has absolutely nothing to do with the questions I posed. Why has this been turned into "pizzagate" discussion? Ridiculous. But since you want to go there- Who is making these claims? Not I. I have never claimed anything you list above. So who is your statement directed to? I think yall need to go back to THAT post and read again what I said about it. I did not say "a pedophile ring is being run from PingPong Pizza". I never said anything about vaults or basements until it was mentioned by others. And my response to "basement" question was that the owner himself said otherwise in a publication prior to "pizzagate" scandal. Call me crazy for questioning that! A question someone else posed to me. I clearly stated in original post that I was lead to reconsider the emails by some friends when discussing Epstein. I do not know enough about the matter to decide one way or the other. And since you were unaware of that fact (what owner said about basement), you do not know enough either. There is absolutely nothing unreasonable about questioning this matter in light of the flood of sex scandals being charged at people in very high places and the connection between those accused and their circle of friends that also include prior allegations. Nothing. Especially when one of those friends is a former President who was nearly impeached for his sexual abuse of an intern, and a current President who is clearly sexually offensive! I would appreciate if you (and others) would stop putting words in my mouth and only address me with questions in claims I have ACTUALLY made. Thank you

@jniece "sexual abuse of an intern"? You mean consentual sex between adults. This is why people treat you like a TROLL.

@BitFlipper Really? Name calling? How very mature.
I do need to correct something- His impeachment was for perjury and obstruction relating to his abuses. "consentual"? You don't understand what abuse of power is? 'Using that word, one assumes it was in some way an actual relationship of sorts; which couldn’t be farther from the truth. What it was was a series of encounters to address a physical need, a use of a young girl, and then the cold, hard dismissal of her on any human level' Clinton's accusations of sexual misconduct include 2 rapes and several unwanted groping and exposing himself. More recently we've learned he was on the Lolita Express 26 times! All these things demonstrate an easily recognizable pattern of abuse.
And thank you for not responding to anything else I presented in statement above. At least that makes your intentions here clear. Good day sir! I will not be responding to your personal attacks further.

@jniece snowflake.

You believe conspiracies? I don't believe anything conspiracy believers say.

Me either. They have been debunked. I believe that's the reason they have been dropped and were never reported on by reputable news sources. I had a young women tell me last week Elvis Presley was found living under a bridge in Nashville. I asked her if she had read that on FB. Yes and it was the gods truth to her because it was published. WTF has happened to peoples brains?

1

It would help to know what the subject matter was... And why you do not trust any mainstream media on earth??... seems that should be limited to media that has proven itself untrustworthy and not all mainstream media.

She wants us all to buy "Pizzagate" and is mad we told her the building was built on a slab. (Why let Facts ruin a perfectly good nutty frenzy!!)

I don't trust media owned or funded by corporations who's primary interests are in something other than publication. Like weapons manufacturers, banking, energy, pharmaceuticals etc.

???

3

What does "MSM" stand for?

Mainstream media?

Men who have sex with men?

the first one 🙂

3

What source(s) do you trust? Only that which you have personally witnessed?

no. I trust articles and research that list information sources that can be verified and vetted. If it is an organization or corporation publishing the subject matter, I also what to know who owns it and whether or not they have financial motive in it's publishing. (outside of just selling the information itself)

Let my pizzas go!

So you don't trust anything MSM says, but are willing to consider a conspiracy theory launched through MSM.. like Pizzagate.

Most of us, not all, on here like evidence for claims. We don't deal with 'what if' and correlations. Most political conspiracy theories don't rely on evidence, they rely on taking advantage of someone's personal bias.

Pizzagate came from emails released by wikileaks. Not MSM. I read the emails and looked at all the social media posted by people communicating in those emails. I am not convinced either way on the matter. I have not dismissed something nefarious because of the things they themselves have said and posted. That's it. These are not unreasonable things to question. In fact, the whole damn thing could easily be put to rest should they just state what the damn emails actually mean instead of letting people try to guess.

4

@jniece, all of your post are drivel about conspiracy theories. And you think we are out of touch?

Truth is NOT determined by majority vote. Ur statement implies there are no actual conspiracies. I question things that I find interesting. You don't think media conspires with power? "We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything America believes is false" CIA Dir Casey. From the horses mouth there pal. Mk ultra, mind control, cointelpro, flouride, watergate, nsa, gulf of tonkin, and many more "conspiracy theories" that have been proven true.

5

You have to realize that the term Main Stream Media has expanded to include things like FOX
Do not go down the road of fake news please. It is just so stupid. MSNBC CNN BBC and down the list. They are excellent and do not lie, if a mistake they correct. But what is it that was debunked by them

EMC2 Level 8 Sep 5, 2019

u f'n kidding me? How many proven lies should I present to you by these outlets to convince u of their dishonesty? 25? 100? give me number.Glad to oblige.

She believes in Pizzagate....

@AnneWimsey Beyond help then. Must believe in the tooth fairy too. That's conspiracy.

@AnneWimsey I do NOT believe in "pizzagate". Some friends pointed out some things related to it via Epstein that I thought deserved consideration. There have been MANY pedophile trafficking rings recently discovered that are every bit as "crazy" as pizzagate. And ironically the latest one has multiple connections to same people! If it is ridiculous to consider those things to you; good thing you aren't a criminal investigator because that is exactly how crimes are solved.

@AnneWimsey, @freeofgod perfect example of what I'm talking about right here. How much knowledge do you actually have regarding what I believe or disbelieve? NONE How dare u judge me for asking questions?

@jniece excuuuuuse meeee, you post about long-debunked BS and I reply, with others, several times, with ACTUAL FACTS, yet you persist in staying in la-la land & now you post 2 personal attacks on me in a row???!! And I observe, on quite a few others.......A better question would be, what meds are you taking, because they need adjusting, STAT! You posted, all of us have tried to be polite even though you are Full of Crap & non-responsive to actual reason.......wait, a better question: drumpy troll, much?

@AnneWimsey Attacked you? Define attack. This post is the first time I've directed anything negative towards you and that is because I noticed YOU telling someone else an outright LIE about me. I am unaware of ANY "fact" you stated regarding pizzagate. If that is what you're referring to. I don't know what else it could be. Everything you stated was regarding things I never claimed! I said absolutely NOTHING about vaults or the damn building whatsoever. When someone else mentioned the basement I responded with what THE OWNER HIMSELF told metroweekly regarding the basement. THAT is a verifiable fact. You did not present a single argument for anything I claimed. I mentioned the investigation into the clinton foundations trafficking in Haiti. I never claimed Hillary was running anything. EVER. The entire conversation is still available for you and everyone else for that matter. Read it again.

@jniece JUst show us REAL news and the issue is solved. People still believe Hillary is a sex trader. MSNBC, CNN, and so on down the list and including reputable news papers are NOT dishing out Fake News. They are not and you must wake the hell up or you will become part of the ignorant cult.

@EMC2 WOW. Do you get away with treating people this way often? So the person who considers who is publishing material and who it benefits is ignorant and the one who simply disregards this is the enlightened one? please. Who was it again that convinced us that Hussein was party to 9/11 and Iraq had WMDS? Not Fox! MSNBC.CNN, NYTimes, Washington Post. Hey, I know though. It's easier to fool someone than it is to convince them they have been fooled.

@jniece Goodnight Moon

@jniece 1. the "owner himself" interview was completely bogus, in fact that guy was not the the "owner", he leased a shop area from the.building's actual owner....like most small businesses. No tomato growing.......because, once again, NO BASEMENT
2. Quite a few people have pointed out the building has no basement, and I even told you how to check it for yourself, ubt nooooo, you persist in clinging to your theories.
3. 2 posts in a row, plus a general post, telling everyone how "close-minded" we all are, because, I guess, we prefer Facts? And now this post? Really?

@jniece you need new meds, period. Your hostility on behalf of your "friends" and their weirdness is mind-boggling, on this thread and others.

MSM... Methylsulfonylmethane?

Condescending? up yours.
Not?
what the he-- is that?

@jniece Hey! Thanks for jumping to conclusions there cupcake! No... Seriously... I didn't know what MSM stood for. I Googled it and nothing showed except for what I posted.

But I see you type in text mode... Perhaps that explains it.

@RiverRick I wasn't certain, hence question mark. forgive me, and I'll forgive you for calling me "cupcake". It was not intended to be insulting. I asked. I didn't assume. And I provided response for both possibilities.

@jniece MSM, a suppliment.

2

What I do see is several generalizations that do not fit.

yes. Clearly my generalization doesn't "fit". I'm interested in why. You know, what makes one skeptical of some things but not others.

1

I'm a new atheist, but I've been skeptical my whole life. I suppose theres a wide range of reasons why people might be atheist, but I don't think it's necessary to be one. I do think if skepticism is applied correctly, it should lead to atheism or agnosticism.

Do you apply your skepticism to everything though?

@jniece yeah, it's my default position on most everything. Except, I guess when it came to religion. Groan...

7

Without any context to your question I find it impossible to give you any answer. If you wish to enlarge on the subject you got knee-jerk responses to, then perhaps we could have a discussion about it....until then I’m completely in the dark.

Instant denial w/o thought or reflection. Something that's emotionally disturbing tends to be immediately rejected or dismissed reflexively. Is it just avoidance of discomfort or is protection from something your psyche isn't capable of handling? Or maybe avoiding responsibility your conscious would force you to act on? Like a psychological survival skill?

@jniece I understand the concept...you just haven’t told me what the topic was that prompted you to come to your conclusions regarding how people behaved. The others seem to have more of an idea what you may be referring to, but I still don’t have a clue.

@Marionville Estonian postings to foment anti-democratic hatred during '16.......because it is well-known that 70-year old women (hilary) are in the forefront of child molestation cases.....

@Marionville Not related to a specific topic or person. Just in general. There are 2 above. One basically dismisses me outright, warning me that disagreement with his position is not worthy of consideration.. Another is literally mocking me directly to others. I suppose they are good examples to evaluate. Both are new however, and not related to initial inquiry.

@AnneWimsey who is making that claim? Not I. If you've got something to say to me how bout you direct it AT me.
