One of my primary jobs now is that of community organizer. In that capacity, I work with a diverse group. Recently a minister with whom I have worked in past "wrote" a piece in the local paper (I put that in quotes b/c I'm certain based on correspondence I've had with the individual that someone ELSE did the actual writing of the piece altogether). In this diatribe, the pastor says that the end days are here (what, AGAIN?), and reveals their reasons for thinking this is the case. One of the many reasons was SEXUAL IMMORALITY ON THE RISE, and they used an offensive quote that (incorrectly) referenced the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. That's a Christian thing only-they think it's about homosexuality (and it's not, at least in the original Jewish version.) And they ALSO weirdly used as a another reason the increase of knowledge! I've a conference coming up this weekend. This person will be there. I will be there also doing workshops and have to encounter them. The leaders have been forewarned. Sigh. (They've been reported to VA Organizing, b/c I believe this is a violation of the organization's rules re: hate-speech.)
