My holidays are almost at an end. We've been here, at my sister's house in Italy, for exactly four weeks. In 14 hours time we start a meandering journey homewards, taking 5 days to cover a mere 1,500 miles. When we get home, next Monday evening, we will have been away for 75 days!
The photo is of part of my sister's house in Como.
in less than 6 weeks we'll start off on a 1700 mile drive which we do with 3 sleeps. getting tired just thinking about it.
You'll enjoy it once you start, I hope. 4 driving sessions of 400/450 miles àt an average speed of 60mph is 7 hours driving per day. Absolutely perfect! Post some photos for us to enjoy, if you can.
@Petter, not much to post. just i5 then i10 from border to mesa az. need to go around several big cities including LA. what makes our trip longer is the ferry to mainland BC & then the wait at border.
@callmedubious There's always the view from the ferry.
I did a 1500 mile drive in less than 2 days recently. Never again. 5 days sounds great. Jealous
Yeah, but you did it in 2 days only because there wasn't enough room in the cooler to carry more than 2 days worth of beer, and you didn't have room for another cooler.
One of the many reasons vodka was invented. I keep telling you, learn from your elders. We actually have figured a few things out.
@1of5 yeah, but it was your generation that made it so "convenience" stores could only carry beer and wine. what was that all about?
@MarkiusMahamius that was Anheuser-Busch's doings. Ruined beer and 7-11's across this great nation of ours. It's the move that soured me on unfettered capitalism.
I have done this drive in a single, non-stop hit, at times. It takes 20 hours and a LOT of coffee! The speed limit in France is 82 mph and in Spain 75mph. This can be "pushed" a bit before you get nabbed. But keeping it up for hours is strenuous for me now. That's when I realise I am getting on a bit.
What a great life you lead!
Nowadays, yes.
