Switch the word 'desire' with 'right', so that the two ideas are on a level field, and I'd say they are quite equal. I should have the right to carry a gun in a School, or WalMart, or a Theater, and defend myself, and the others around me against someone with any other kind of weapon. Trust me, how a weapon looks "military style" has nothing to do with it's ability to throw lead. So, I'm not sure why that bothers you so much. Out of curiosity, what should be the limit of rounds a gun can hold?

If there is a shooting, how are the police supposed to tell the good guy from the bad guy with the gun? And, who are the "good guys with a gun" going to know who to shoot and who not to shoot if a bunch of people pull out their guns?

And, added to all this, carrying weapons openly in public is a WHITE person's privilege. Black men cannot even carry around a toy gun in a WalMart without getting shot to death.

Also, the Second Amendment has been perverted. The opening words are "A well REGULATED militia..." We now have a standing military to protect our nation.

Also, I am a woman who feels perfectly safe walking around without guns to protect myself. I am absolutely speechless that grown men feel less safe than I do when in public.

@Joanne Thankfully, you don't get to decide what weapon we can own, and where we can carry it. I own about every weapon made, and carry one around with me every where, every day, all day. The only time I don't is when I'm going out for drinks, but my friends and I make sure one of us is the designated driver/carrier. That way, no DWI problem, and one of us is armed.

As for a shooting, by the time the police get there, it will most likely be over. And if the good guy prevails, he will have holstered his weapon by then, and will be sitting there with the others ready to debrief the officers when they arrive.

As for your whole "WHITE person" idea, stats show the police shoot more white people than black every year. It stands to reason because there are more white people. I know black people that carry all the time without any issue. So, so much for that argument.

Now, I'm very glad you feel safe without a gun. I couldn't care less. And how you feel about anyone else and their desire to carry only worries me because you think you know what is best for everybody else. In August, 1978 I was assisting in a Police Raid on a drug manufacturing house when the father making and selling the drugs threatened to shoot his own son with a 32 caliber pistol, I dived in to save the child and got shot, twice in the abdomen and twice in the right leg, lost nearly 50% of my body's blood volume BEFORE getting to a hospital, almost died twice on the operating table AND I still DO NOT carry a gun anywhere, anytime or for any reason.

@ArtemisDivine Do you really think you need a military style weapon to protect yourself and your family when a shotgun will do the trick just fine? I am not out to take all your guns away. I own guns myself ffs. But, I have NO problem having a background check done on me; and I sure as heck know that I don't need a military style weapon to feel safe or to be safe. And, seriously, black men could never get by with walking around with weapons strapped all over him like some of the insecure white men running around thinking they look tough.

@Joanne what firearm you use is a choice for you and you alone. How arrogant it is for you to think you should decide for me what I should use? What firearm that I feel comfortable using? I don't make choices for you, don't fucking make choices for me. It's none of my business what firearm you feel comfortable with or are experienced using...the same for me...its none of your business what I feel comfortable with and have experience using.

Choosing a firearm is a personal choice based on many factors. I don't give a fuck what a gun looks like. I look for how it feels in my hands, how much recoil it has, how reliable the gun manufacture makes it, what type of repair policy the manufacturer has, how effective the sights are and their level of adjustment, how the gun handles when I fire it and cost.

I also don't have a problem with backgrounds checks. I've had 4 in two yrs. I'm not a criminal and don't appreciate being treated like one.

Your statement about black men can't carry is an uneducated and ridiculous statement. I know of several black men who carry and have never had a problem doing so.
