I'm looking forward to the logical gymnastics that our conservative brethren will go through to justify Trump fucking over the Kurds.
The comment about the Kurds not helping in WWII is the most inane comment I have ever heard from a world leader, including this one.
You could argue that the Americans didn’t help Europe until their arse was kicked at Pearl Harbour.
WWII mythology has been and gone. Maybe let’s think globally now because that’s what the emphasis is. The genie is out of the bottle so we have to respond in a global context, not local. This is why Brexit is such a negative step for Britain
The consensus I overheard from different coworkers is that we help everyone else and no one else helps us so we need to stop with the charity.. type of thing. Same as with any other group of people or small nations we took advantage of then left to crumble.
Kurdish casualties in northern Syria - 11,000
American casualties in northern Syria - 0
I was crying listening to Rachael Maddow explain it yesterday.
After seeing a bit in a news report of Erdogan with a map including the 20 mile zone into Syria, my first thought was that he's just taking advantage of the situation to make a land-grab.
Then I heard a report over the concern of Daesh (ISIS) prisoners, and eventually thought a lot of these prisoners would probably be conveniently killed in the bombings. I won't be surprised if we eventually learn that Turkey intentionally targeted the prisons, by accident of course. What better way to deal with them, right?
And there's more related to Turkey. And all this only enforces my suspicion that Trump is actually trying to be impeached, so Pence can take over.
They’ll say he’s only fulfilling his election pledges to bring US troops home...and his followers will agree.
No way, I predict, sadly, that a largish amount of our 1,000 soldiers there will be harmed in the next 48 hours!
@AnneWimsey How so? They are not the target of the Turks...it’s the Kurds and the refugees who are already dying in the Turkish offensive who will pay the price of Trumps betrayal.
@Marionville the Kurds are fleeing to our bases for protection.....when those bases get bombed/stormed/overrun, do you think our troops will be magically unscathed? Drump is an IDIOT and so are you!
@AnneWimsey Thank you,..but I don’t like that you include me in your remarks regarding idiocy...that is uncalled for. The Turks are not idiots and will not turn their fire on US bases. I repeat, at present it’s only the Kurds and the poor refugees who are in the firing line. Pompeo is still telling the world that the USA is right to give the green light to the Turks and backing up everything that your president does and says. I do hope you are wrong and that no more US soldiers are put in harms way, but my main sympathies don’t lie with them, but with the Kurds who have been betrayed by your country, and the poor Syrian refugees who are not even given a moments thought by the idiots in this power struggle.
On NPR they interviewed a Representative Green from Tennessee. That is exactly what he said, that Trump is fulfilling his campaign promise to bring the troops home so therefore it was a good thing. The fact that women and children will die matters little it seems.
@yamaha45701 That was so predictable. I thought it would be obvious to everyone! Apparently not so judging by the above discourse from one lady!
