"Positive psychology is to the corporate state what eugenics was to the Nazis. Positive psychology — at least, as applied so broadly and unquestioningly to corporate relations—is a quack science. It throws a smokescreen over corporate domination, abuse, and greed. Those who preach it serve the corporate leviathan. They are awash in corporate grants. They are invited to corporate retreats to assure corporate employees that they can find happiness by sublimating their selves into corporate culture.

Those who fail to exhibit positive attitudes, no matter the external reality, are in some ways ill. Their attitudes, like those of recalcitrant Chinese during the Cultural Revolution, need correction. Once we adopt a positive mind, positive things will always happen. This belief, like all the other illusions peddled in the culture, encourages people to flee from reality when reality is frightening or depressing."

Having worked in the corporate world I found it tedious and de-personalising. Play the game while you are there and then back to yourself when it’s done.

I got out of the corporati however because the mentality drains your soul, or I felt it was for me.

I like Hedges. My thoughts on Positive Psychology are that it is a secular attempt to accomplish the same thing religions are aimed at, essentially, obtaining some kind of durable peace of mind.

And while, just as with PosPsych’s sacred counterpart, the intent is noble, the execution is equally plagued by the human tendency to grasp at the benefits, without much enthusiasm for embracing the costs.

Psychologist, Kirk Schneider said it well: “perhaps genuine happiness is not something you aim at, but is a by-product of a life well lived – and a life well lived does not settle on the programmed or neatly calibrated."

Positive psychology was never about making people happy, it was always about improving the trust relationship between employee, employer, and client.

Anyone gullible enough to belive it will probably make excellent employees, because they will turn off higher logic and do what the employer asks, becoming a slave to their own emotions. They are like a dog trained to work for treats.

On the client side, the customers have a pleasant experience when dealing with the company which has a tendency to bring them for future business. The effects are subconscious, but they have been proven to work.

The employer who monitors and maintains corporate culture has the most to gain. By convincing their employees that they themselves are not evil because they just want their employees to be happy, and slowly singling out not just talent but also trustworthiness and compatibility with the other employees.

Not At All sure you can equate corporate "team-building" & the like to eugenics as practiced by the Nazis, buddy........
