I have a friend who shows up every now and then at my house to chat and pray over me. It isn't hurting me so I tolerate it. Today she showed up unannounced as usual and told me a troubling story.

She's ex-Mormon with some strong religious beliefs but she's been attending the Seventh Day Adventist church with family for a year. The pastor and some others confronted her recently when they found out she still believes in the Book of Mormon. She said they took her down to the basement, once last week and once today, and verbally attacked her, a group against her all alone. When she refused to yield to their demands that she renounce her beliefs, they kicked her out of the church and told her she couldn't come back.

She came to my house directly afterward. She told me how God gave her the words to say and how good she felt for standing up for the truth. I tried to keep my comments supportive but couldn't help being aware of how she allowed herself to be subjected to a verbally abusive situation, not only once but twice. After the first time, she went back for more.

I get it. I've done the same thing in the past. Now I would have walked out the moment things got crazy and it's hard to watch a friend allow that to happen and not be able to say anything about it. It's also another time I find myself shaking my head in amazement at the things people do in the name of God. I can't believe I was ever part of that.

The delusion runs deep & is difficult to dislodge. Be supportive & nurture your friend's endeavor to be free from religious bondage.

She has become an acquaintance. Prolly always was.

1

Glad you made it out.
Sorry she is still tethered to baseless superstition.
Years ago we had an atheist group in town. My favorite member was an X Mormon who worked high in the core of the church- - - He had many stories of how messed up so many Mormons were - - - he was a part of an underground railroad that helped Mormons that wanted to leave, escape from the church as they were ofter left with nothing an in need of much help.

Having grown up SDA, I'm so aware of how they operate. At times like this I wish I could just drop a stink bomb and then disappear into the fog.

Stink bomb! I've thought about that one,,, middle of mass, Easter Sunday!

I wonder if it was just random church goers if she would have put up with it? Maybe because the pastor was involved she thought he was "the voice of God" or the representative for God? Some people give too much importance and power or high regard for ministers/pastors/priests/etc.

Yes many people are totally bamboozled by those titles. I never was even when I was apart of the church. I always thought who the f#ck r u. How r u closer to God to me if there is one. Now as a non believer I really have no respect for those titles...

1

That is horrible and extreme, she needs to switch something church beliefs something

I have friends who are very religious. We respect each other's boundaries on the subject. If one of my friends came into my home and insisted upon proselytizing or praying over me, I would demand that they stop or leave. I may be a wee bit more patient with such people elsewhere (or not) but I won't put up with that nonsense in my own home.

Well she is a fanatic and fanatics do some horrible things not only to themselves but to others too. It almost sounds like she "enjoyed" the interrogation to me too.

2

There are many points to use, this is something to point out from her experience. From the "good book" it says "And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto him, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: ..

Seven day advent and mormons are of many divisions or denominations of christianity.

Christianity is divided, even against itself.

Exactly what I was thinking while she was here. What can you expect from people who believe in an abusive god?

@UpsideDownAgain EXACTLY!
Couldn't have said it better myself. And I'm stealing your comment to use later.

@Triphid You criticize me for quoting biblical text. I give you this conversation for your evaluation and perhaps your 158 I.Q. could come to an understanding of using biblical text. See comment above about divided kingdom. Yes, you like to state your Doctoral of comparative religion but I can point out that it has already been addressed almost 2000 years ago. Are you able to understand this short story from biblical text? But, with my slight change addressing your situation.

John 5:35 You study the Scriptures diligently [you obtain high education certification] because you think that in them you have eternal life[because you think you can prove - against supernatural]. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,

@blahblah Oh FFS, what exactly are you implying here?
I studied Theology and Comparative Modern Religions simply because I WANTED to know more and in doing so LEARN more NOT to gain Eternal Life, which btw IS absolute Hokum to say the very minimum.

@Triphid how well do you think you mortals actually understand eternity, things of infinity? Infinity of direction in every direction. Infinity of time past and time future?

You know what you call a boomerang that doesn't come back? You should know, a stick.

Funny joke, not best for an analogy but for now: Throw a stick to infinity and expect proof it went there.

Genesis 319 ...for dust you are and to dust you will return."

Ruach is force. How long has force been in the universe?

@Triphid I am only famuliar with christianity being a former Christian. So, from your studies of comparing religion, how does Jesus religion compare to Zues religion compare to new age Harry potter religion?

@blahblah The MYTHOLOGICAL jesus is, in all fact and Historical FACT merely an amalgamation of numerous other mythological figures from even older and more ancient cultures that preceded the invention of Judaism and its somewhat bastard child, Christianity.
The ancient Greeks had numerous tales of children/heroes born from the unions between Zeus and mortal women, Demigods to give the correct title or name to be precise), the Roman Aristocratic families often 'claimed to descended from Gods and Goddesses as well, e.g. the Julian family ( Gaius Julius Caesar being a member of the Julian family) claimed to be DIRECT descendants of the Goddess Venus, ancient Egyptian religion claimed that Horus, son of Osiris and Isis was born when Isis was a virgin, was put to death and resurrected just a Horus searched for the body parts of his father, Osiris, after his uncle, Set/Seth/Sutek slew him, cut him into 4 equal parts and hid them across the lands, so that Isis and her sister could put them back together nd resurrect him again.
Plus, given that according to the Roman Calendar, and that the 'deci' in DECEMBER refers to being the number 10 and NOT the number 12, the month known as December I, in actual FACT, the 10th. month and not the 12th. month as it is now, then, IF, this jesus was born at all he would have been born in mid-Autumn(Fall) and NOT in mid-winter as the bible claims.
You see now, FACT overrules and defeats fiction every time.
As far you analogy that those who are ardent followers of the entirely FICTITIOUS " Harry Potter books, etc," are members of a "new" religion, therefore that self-same analogy YOU have made MUST ring 100% TRUE for Christianity as well.
Though I will admit that it MAY seems that some fans/followers of fictitious stories/books do appear to be 'religious' about the subjects they enjoy or involved with, there IS a difference, a very VAST difference btw, between being a follower of a religion and being someone who IS 'religious' about something or subject.
Perhaps, just perhaps, you may consider studying the usages and meanings of words, grammar, etc, a wee bit MORE before posting in the future, BUT that IS merely a suggestion btw.

@Triphid

Like a lot of people I was reared going to church every time the doors opened.

In my early teens I began studying the biblical text for myself and not just listening to the preacher.

I was about 15 when I had my ooen vision and experienced what the biblical text considers prophetic (words of knowledge) some might call it psychic.

Then in my early 20s was the dreams that were very rememorable unlike most any other dreams I have.

In my late 20's I began doing what i viewed as spiritual warfare as indicated in biblical text, prayer and fasting.

The dreams began to come to pass and were connected, where as the dreams did not seems to be connected and originally no ideal they were dreams of future events.

At the climax of my spiritual battling that also turned legal, one person I had seen in a dream I met in person. He called himself by 4 titles: son of Lucifer, grim reaper, nameless-faceless one and "alpha and omega."

Since trying to figure out why such I had believed didn't work out to bring about justice and an end to the Masonic lodge secret religion racist devil worshippers I have since gone back and in study found that Jesus the Christ is lucipher the devil and it is biblical.

So, I no longer consider myself a Christian.

@Triphid whom the LORD of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.”Isaiah 19:25

@Triphid Osiris, lord of host, light bearer, something to do with Venus, reincarnation by birth thru "Pnuema " ruach, power of spoken words. Stories of spoken myth come into reality.

This is biblical theme.

@Triphid speaking jesus into existence... biblical theme

@Triphid do you understand biblical theme? "Son of man" jesus is a product. Offspring, of men's words that were spoken in old testiment. What is born of Pnuema(power of words) is Pnuema(power of words) that born of flesh is flesh.

A spoken word is intellegable information with kinetic energy going thru the air.

@Triphid in researching some Jewish stuff, when "Angeluc" host were reportedly interacting with people the Angelic person would not give a name for themselves. I understand by Jewish traditions the "hosts" angels are created.

The man I had seen in a precognative dream would not give a name for himself only the titles. It was years later I come across the Jewish information about angles not giving their name.

@Triphid let me clarify, in my dreams, there was no sound while I dream. Only seeing. Then it was in person I spoke with the man that I had seen in a previous dream and had conversations with in person.

And I know, I cannot "prove" I had the dreams first. As to visiting w as th this person in person, there would be potential witnesses but still rather moot.

@Triphid the last of the things the man told me was that I was not God and no one would believe me.

I walked away wondering, why the "encounter" seemed so screwed up as compared to my prophetic expectations of this "God" encounter. Yes, I had various prophetic things fortelling me to expect a 'God" encounter. Such, about a year before the encounter I was at I.H.O.P. (international house of prayer) in Kansas City Missouri on my 40 day fast. Where there was a man prophesied to me " you are going to meet God" The man in person from dream tried telling me I was a "medium " as in the psychic medium type.

While now I see much of the encounter as more so of an attack against me to make me look crazy because of my "spiritual " and legal battles against the Masonic lodge secret religion racist devil worshippers, hence now I see it as being Lucifer the devil A.K.A Jesus leading them. What I thought J was fighting for us what I was battling against.

God damn Jesus. Yea, the supernatural was very interesting to experience, but the kicker I couldn't figure out at first that really got me to thinking was why would no one believe me? I had just had some series of what I could only think of as awesome supernatural prophetic experiences and this dude wants to say no one would believe me?

Yea, then I discovered illogical atheist really do exist and understand why no one would believe me. B

Almost can't help but laugh now but God damn Jesus. It is genius, god damn genius.

@Triphid This document has a brief history in its introduction, stating that the "craft of masonry" began with Euclid in Egypt, and came to England in the reign of King Athelstan (born about 894, died 27 October 939).[1] Shortly afterwards, the Cooke Manuscript traces masonry to Jabal son of Lamech (Genesis 4: 20–22), and tells how this knowledge came to Euclid, from him to the Children of Israel (while they were in Egypt), wikipedia

Masonic lodge secret religion racist devil worshippers >the "spirit" ,or "psychological meme" has ties from Egypt. thru Israel into Rome(Europe) Christianity then falls into denominations and out of the dark ages rise the "enlightened " ones. Evolution and growth of "the spirit " can be seen thru out history. Logos - thoughts/words. Jn uh gdr6yyhcf vcd y7 6th f

The peoples thoughts words myths become flesh
... logos become flesh. John 1:14

Anyways I'm tired

@blahblah
if perchance you ARE referring to Euclid of Alexandria from during the reign of Ptolemy I as the introducer of the Art of Masonry to Egypt, then my friend you ARE truly up shit creek in a toilet paper canoe with a tongue depressor as a paddle OR, as we say in Australia, shitting in the wrong dunny.
Egyptians were excellent stone masons from around the times of Djoser and Khufu, Kings of Egypt at the beginning of the OLD Kingdom some 3,000+ years ago.
So chronologically and TRUE Historically it puts your vaunted and beloved Hebrews still wandering around as nomadic goat-herders and worshipping gods like Baal, Ishtar and Mithras, etc, NOT their nythical Invisible, Imaginary Sky Daddy, Jehovah or Yahweh, etc.
Again TRUTH and Facts have once more shown bible history and YOURSELF the door, so, PLEASE, try NOT to let it hit you in the arse on your way.

@Triphid I was only quoting from a reference I recently found showing a connection.

What ever the History was, it was, when ever it was it was. I am not here trying to invent history nor rewrite history. I take the FACTS of my personal experience of the prophetic experiences I have had and I look at what information I have avaliable to look for what it is connected to and how it relates.

@Triphid The biblical accounts point to the fall of the year as the most likely time of Jesus’ birth, based on the conception and birth of John the Baptist. [ucg.org]

@Triphid I hadn't thought lately about the guesstamated time of Jesus birth. I knew December was not considered correct. From years ago I thought I remembered a date in spring would be Jesus's birth month, but looks like your fall time is in correlation to biblical account according to aritical of my previous post .

@Triphid Here on this I am not covering with you again about my vision and factors of thumb typing on a phone as to grammar etc.

College English and American Lit. My least favorite subjects, while I had a full computer to sit in fron of and more time to proof read I maintained a 4.0 GPA. 4.0 in all my college classes that I have had the money to attend. Police academy 4.0 salutatorian. The slight difference between my grade and valedictorian was because her hand writing was prettier than mine on some graded assignments that included grades for hand writing.

Now, if we can get the Masonic lodge secret religion racist devil worshippers capitalism slave labor new world order taxation government terrism shut down and brought to an end we can make sure there is availability for everyone on Earth to enjoy the fullness of all knowledge, understanding, wisdom, skill, craft, trade and college certifications of any kind free from tuition, free from loans, free any fees that way all human animals can enjoy the fullness of all intellectual capabilities being able to know anything and everything about anything and everything that could possibly be known and kill anyone in true justice that opposes this.

@blahblah OH FFS Antifred, or whatever you've now chosen to call yourself these days, GET A LIFE PLEASE and leave decent people ALONE for once, ME included.
I AM NOT interested in your inane rantings and ravings over your dreams and your hatred of the Masonics, etc, NOR your tedious CHERRY-PICKING of bible passages either.

@Triphid there lies my problem, where on earth is there decent people? Where on Earth can everyone on Earth be like," Here's a nice place I can have me a brick home, business and property built by true masons free from mortgage, free from rent free from taxation free from governmental terrorism and free from religious oppression. I can grow me a garden full of wonderful healthy fruits and share it with all the community around so that all has plenty to eat. I can build me a college and teach people some nice tasty knowledge of every kind."

Where on Earth is every one on Earth able to do this anywhere on Earth?

@blahblah I will respond for the VERY FINAL time here, Antifred, then I WILL communicate with and amongst the Community Senate to inquire IF something can be done to at least alleviate the tedium of your incessant postings both for the good of the membership at large AND for myself.
In my honest and educated opinion, YOU are your own biggest problem.

@Triphid Thank you for your final responce. I would hope you are alleviated of your ailment that causes you fatigue.

I can understand and see I may have problems. I do not doubt that I have some in one way or another depending on how you look at it.

I have a problem with understanding someone that want to continue to commit the sin of Ad hominem fallacy attacking, belittling, degrading me when all I do is have conversations with people that make claims of having a wealth of knowledge but rather than communicating, sharing, discussing, someone wants to constantly shun someone because they think they are better than someone else because they have such wealth of knowledge.

1

Say something to her or not, it doesn't matter.

1

Well all you can do is be supportive and perhaps remind her what she's going back to. And changes she decides has to be made on her own.

4

Good on you for supporting your friend. Obviously trusts in you to share this kind of stuff. Sometimes it's better to withhold your judgement and let the person make up their own mind.

Thanks!

5

She's behaving like a woman in an abusive relationship.

Yes, she sure is. Abuse isn't confined to romantic relationships. A lot of religion is abusive relationships.

2

You are very patient, I would have kicked her ass out the first time she "prayed over me"

2

That's terrible. And these religious people think that they are so good.

2

You just can't beat that book of "More Man." 🙂

4

You can listen but only to a point . . . if she keeps going down the same rabbit holes you can't help her and she has to help herself

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at right now. She totally believes she did what Jesus wanted by walking back into that place the second time. I can't help her until she starts asking a questions.

5

If she is defending the Book of Mormon, but has been attending the Seventh Day Adventists..she is not an ex Mormon but a Mormon, only Mormons believe the Book of Mormon. I think she is extremely confused and, although not condoning the treatment she received at the hands of the Adventists, I can understand why they wanted to question her as to why she still believed it. Both these sects are equally ridiculous in their beliefs, but I feel that your friend is in fact searching for a religion that she fits into. Ask her what she really believes and why...the why is important, if she is still clinging to the belief that the Book of Mormon is true. You can try to use logic to make her see that it’s all pretty controlling and abusive...both the Mormons and the Adventists, and that she needs to begin to think for herself about her relationship with god...or in fact if there is a god. I would tell her straight that you are a nonbeliever and that praying may make her feel good, but that it’s meaningless to you.

She is post-LDS. Not everyone on here would understand that so I put down ex-Mormon. She is part of the remnant movement, a new Mormon upstart that has broken off of the LDS church.

@UpsideDownAgain My advice is still the same,

3

That's a tough one. I suppose it becomes a judgement call on your part as to how independent and self confident she is and how much she trusts you.

You're right to be supportive but of course there's a lot of chance for hard feelings -- which from your statement you obviously know. Good luck. 🤗
