This morning I received a mesage from Admin that several groups have been cancelled. , among them the Type 1 Diabetes group, the Dr. Who group and the Bob Dylan group. There were more, but I am too lazy to look them up. My question is why do i receive this notification? Did you receive it as well?
I know I started the Type 1 diabetes group, or at least posted to it, maybe the Dr. Who one as well.
Please reassure me that I am not being singled out. Am I the moderator for all those groups?
Answers, please.

I received notices too about the groups that I'm in that were being canceled.

So you were not he admin but a member of a group? That would explain my message as well.

@Spinliesel Yes, that is correct.

First of all you should know if you are the moderator of a group. Second of all, groups are canceled if they are inactive for a period of 2 months according to what I received. Did you receive a notice of cancellation without an explanation?

The explanation is always "no posts for two months. i am not the moderator for all but one of these groups. Oh well, water under the bridge. I'll be more cognizant of where I post.

I have not been notified, but I've also not started a group, nor belong to any of those cancelled.

You're being notified, as it's the better alternative to finding your group has disappeared without notice.

4

If you started a group, or were a member, common courtesy would require that you be notified if it was cancelled
Why resort to paranoia when such information should be expected???

Gawd, Don't tell me we have bureaucracy in Agnostic.com too. The inexplicable compounded by the irrational leads to malaise

So you don't think that being notified that a group you were involved with was cancelled is simply common courtesty???? Really?

It would be a good idea to to re-start the Dylan Group as there at least 5 of us who now know that it once existed and would like to have joined.

After all..... they're selling postcards of the hanging and painting the passports brown

Feel free to start one! Anyone can. And let the others know you did. (And make a post to General and Hellos and let others know too).

It happens often that only after something is gone that people miss it enough to find there is a enough interest to keep a group about it going.

I think it's just so you know. I received notice a few weeks ago that the "Battling Woo" group was closed, due to no activity in the past 2 months. I appreciated learning about the closure, as I battle woo a lot and I make mental notes to myself to bring the topic up for discussion, but apparently there aren't all that many of us who have this problem. I didn't start that group, but I would have appreciated the community of others battling the same thing. Oh well. Guess I know not to start one of my own, since it would flop too!

One post in 2 months would keep it open .

You are not being singled out. I assume the messages are a courtesy on the chance that questions might arise as to the disappearance of the groups. I appreciate being notified.

I’m not a member of any of these groups, but I was notified that one of the groups I belong to had been cancelled, due to a lack of activity.

2

I can’t answer this question...I’m not in any of these groups and never knew any of them existed. I think you will have to ask Admin. I expect if there has been no activity in a group for a long period of time they may decide to close them...if so then I think a couple of mine will be closed down soon too. I inherited all of the groups I’m host to, but I really only post regularly in the music groups.

@marionville did you listen to my post in your music group?

@Bigwavedave I don’t know...what did you post?

@Bigwavedave only if you post in that group

1

I didn't even KNOW there was a Dylan group, or I would've joined.

2

i got some notifications too. they send them to members, not just moderators.

First I'm hearing of it.

7

You received that message because you are / were a member of those groups.. It doesn't mean you're the host or moderator.. I got a message about the beto group being cancelled... If there's no activity for two months, the group is deleted...

thanks for clarification, CB. I never knew that

2

You receive the notice if you are in the groups.

I received notice for two other groups.

I wasn't moderator or originator for either group. Simply a member.

Thank you Raven. That's what I wanted to know.

2

Admin didn't state a reason? I know a group I was admin of didn't have any activity for 3 months so it was closed by admin.

Yes after two months of inactivity a group will be discontinued. It was stated in the message. And it's the rule of thumb for discontinuing a group.

3

Well I hope not, and I didn’t know the Bob Dylan group existed or I would have been on it!😔

Me 3.

3

I have seen nothing.

I have not started any groups so I don't know what the criteria is for keeping them open. It seems to me you should be told if you are being made a moderator for a group. Not fair to just dump it on you.

They send you a PM if you are made moderator of the group. Happened with 2 of my groups. I nourished them and they are healthy now lol!
