I was wondering about revenge porn... does it have to be malicious? Can it be done unintentionally? For example, if a woman/women send(s) a guy nudes, and these images are not publically available nor is the person a sex worker, if the guy shares those nudes on facebook or on the agnostic forum, would that count as a type of "revenge porn"? Since the guy did not get consent to share the image(s)? I have been wondering about this ever since I saw a member sharing nudes women sent him in one of agnostic's groups. Thoughts?
If you're sending nude photos to anyone you should not be surprised if they are circulated around. They are out of your control. I work with teens and this is what I tell them. There are laws to try to get some compensation but if ultimately you don't want others to see them you should not send them to another person. I must be old as I think being nude for someone should be done in the presence of that individual. If you are modeling nude that's different as you should be compensated for the photos and have been paid for the circulation..
If anyone doesn't want to risk nude pics of them being posted anywhere, don't take them, and if you (general you) do take them, don't send them to anyone.
Anyone taking nudes should expect them to eventually be posted online. Like it or not.
@K9Kohle789 That's one of the reasons why I have very little sympathy for these people.
You took the pics, you take the risks.
I'm really tired of the victim-mentality exhibited by people who do stupid shit,
and have it come back to bite them.
Especially with technology.
You pays your money, you takes your chances.
(Again, general "you" )
@NoPlanetB I disagree. Women ought to know better. Yes, it's always been an very uneven playing field, and yes, women usually always get the short end
of the stick. However, knowing all this, we ought to be more aware of how our actions can be used against us.
Taking nudes and sharing them with anyone, should always give us pause.
People are generally NOT trustworthy. Phones and computers get hacked,
all the time.
I can't have much sympathy for women who take nude pics, and then get upset when those pics end up being distributed without their permission.
is it wrong? Hell yes, it's wrong, and those who do that should be made to
suffer the consequences.
The point, however, is to understand and accept the risks BEFORE engaging in any kind of risky behavior.
Taking nudes is setting oneself up for being victimized.
It shouldn't be, but it is. Disregarding reality is a really bad idea.
@K9Kohle789 not the same thing at all, and demeaning Hugely to real victims!
This is distasteful at best, criminal at worst.
I guess there is no such thing as "personal/private" any longer.
In this day and age - best strategy in my book is no nudes. In either direction. I won't send or receive, not that many would want my current nude ass, maybe in my 20's lol.
That's easiest way for images like that not to get out. Think before you shoot.
Okay... but that is not relevant anymore once the image has been taken and already shared... my question was not about how to try to prevent this but if such an action done in a benign way counts as revenge porn or something similar?
@demifeministgal How is sharing with no consent in any way considered benign?
@bingst I guess in relation to revenge porn in which a pissed off ex or wannabe ex shares images/videos to a porn site to ruin a woman's career and reputation vs sharing just to share nice boob pics
@K9Kohle789 LOL You reeeally need to specify if you are using general you or specific you because none of your accusations apply to me. Though that hasn't stopped you from feeling intellectually superior by creating a false caricature of me. You silly lady XD
@K9Kohle789 I will say I have used my brain WAAY more in this exchange than you have... so of the two of us who was raised in the system exactly? Because I can not be a victim of a crime and still empathize with victims of said crimes.... you however seem to struggle in that regard. tsk tsk
@K9Kohle789 really? If it was a general you ya wouldn't have asked if I was raised in an orphanage... you would have asked if PEOPLE (including trans women) were raised in orphanages without a parental unit to advise them not to do this... at least have some damn integrity to ADMIT that you were trying to shit talk me and it has backfired on you immensely... I cannot respect a cowardly liar. tsk tsk shame older but not wiser :/
Women or men really have to grow up and stop taking nude photo's of themselves, unless they are porn stars. Leave it to the professionals or you will be sorry one day.
If I send a nude for a partner or a flirt, I am trusting on that person.
My lack of judgement of the confidentiality of the person is a mistake, but it does not justify or lower the asshole that makes the photo public.
Don't blame the victim.
Well this image comes to mind as well as this quote I read, a bit hyperbolic, but it makes the point: "Could you imagine if dick pics ruined someone’s career? There would be no male politicians!"
@K9Kohle789 see, that is your way of seeing, so you are giving consent to it, but we should not assume that a received nude has a consent to share.
Actually the neutral position (until explicitly said the contrary) is that a nude is only for the receiver and nothing else.
@Pedrohbds stop demeaning actual victims! It takes time & thought to send a nude!
@Pedrohbds Anybody who sends a nude to a partner that they "trust" is a fool. Just look at all those people who hate their exes, surely a bit of common senes should prevail after all how many partners do we have in life that we "trust", and why oh why should you send a nude to anybody at all, keep it until you see each other.
Second thought: To paraphrase warren buffet, "never do anything you would not want to see on the front page of the new york times."
This means, don't do stupid shit. You will regret it.
Except everyone does stupid shit, including you... perhaps you have gotten blackout or too drunk and done stupid shit... but did your reputation and career deserve to be ruined for your stupidity? no
@demifeministgal There are no records of such events.
@Jacar There are nowadays for my generation and the younger ones... since too many people want to be youtube famous or social media famous even at the expense of posting their stupidity online XD
@demifeministgal Then they get what they paid for:
“Stupidity cannot be cured. Stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death. There is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.”
― Robert Heinlein
@demifeministgal So, are you willing to send me some of your recorded remorses?
@Jacar I have no recorded remorses I would like to be invisible not the center of attention
@demifeministgal You can make some for the holidays, and share with a few close friends.
@Jacar nope... if anything I would be doing the recording or picture taking... some of us are just more on the serious side rather than the goofy silly side.
Wow.. Two thoughts! Are you sure of what you think or did have to check the trump handbook afterwards?
@Cutiebeauty It is clear, you have posted to the wrong thread.
@demifeministgal . . . Thanks for the images.
@Jacar keep telling yourself whatever you need to lol
@Cutiebeauty . . You posted a comment that seems out of context, and is in need of a grammar check. . . . Too much wine?.
@Jacar you made two comments to this topic, yes? Both comments very different...
@Cutiebeauty . . Yes. Different but not oppsitional. Variations upon the topic. There are an infinite number of points-of-view. Each of them depends upon the breadth and depth of knowledge of the beholder.
FYI::: . . Age can provide awareness of thew multitude of variations. And also much forgetfulness.
To not explore more than one obesevation is a diservice to oneself and to humanity. We all suffer when any of us behaves without thinking.
Why do you reveal you have only looked from so limited a view? And thereby, attack the personage of one who only seeks to inform, instead of learning what you do not know?
@Jacar so, you implied that I'm stupid, drunk, and too young to consider alternatives to a topic... Please, I do not wish to have your type of "wisdom "
@Jacar ummmm, that's his point......
@Cutiebeauty what who me?? Or jacar? I never refer to the trump handbook nor will I ever... I am THANKFULLY a Canadian and trump can go fck himself with a cactus.
@Cutiebeauty, @Jacar NO IMAGES for you mister! haha >: D
@demifeministgal no, not you... My comment was in response to jacar
@Cutiebeauty Whoa! You got that from what i wrote. A moment of silent amazement.
This thread is a keeper.
This is a dumbass question....let's rephrase it: "my action may cause harm, is it revenge if I do it because I'm okay with doing it cuz fun and because it does me no harm and I'm okay with breaking someone's trust?"
Four letter expletive beginning with the letter 'F' that guy!
Gimme a break with this bullsh!t.
If one really are worried why not permission to post them online. Just call and ask. What do you think anyone's response would be to share something intimate and vulnerable with the public?
Don't play dumb. You wouldn't be asking this unless you were aware that such annaction action may cause harm. Whether it's revenger porrn doesnt matter, what matters is that you are aware your actions may cause harm.
It is not a dumb question I posted it for the group precisely because a group member here was sharing nude selfies he was receiving and it struck me as problematic... but nobody said anything and reports to the senate did nothing so then it got me wondering is it okay then? Isn't it similar to revenge porn? Why did nobody say anything to him about it?
Your rephrasing of the question focuses on the perpetrator rather than the victim of such actions..
@demifeministgal when did you post in the Senate about this? I don't see anything about it... You could've msg me...
How about not taking (& sending them) in the first place?!
@Cutiebeauty if you take, and send pix of yourself that you would/could regret, and you must know "something" about the internet if you do, yes?, you are not a"victim" you are foolish! To say that someone is a victim of their own overt, stupid actions,, demeans actual victims!
@AnneWimsey criminals take advantage of stupid people... Do the criminals get a free pass because someone did something stupid? People make mistakes throughout their lives.. Should they be victimized because they're stupid?
@Cutiebeauty okay sorry I did not talk about it in the senate I reported the post and assumed that report got to senate members or the admin.... My mistake XD
@demifeministgal when reporting a post, Senate has nothing to do with it.. The Senate is like every other group in the community... Reporting a post only goes to the site administrator (s)... However, just to let you know, if you would've sent me a pm or my moderator (@flippantllama ) instead of reporting the post, I would've addressed the issue immediately and probably quicker than the administration here.. They are very busy
@Cutiebeauty I didn't think either of ya found it problematic so I didn't bother PM'ing anyone
Another point: posting nude pics without permission is likely to be actionable even if it is not illegal. It is wise to protect one's finances by refraining from actions that could result in successful lawsuits.
First you have to prove the person's phone was not hacked and/or stolen...good luck with that!
It’s wrong and illegal.
There are inherent respect and trust issues when you gift someone that.
There are zero reasons to share that form of intimacy unless the other person gave permission.
On a final note.... leave your face out of nudes
I agree that it is wrong, but what law is being broken?
@indirect76 It’s a criminal offence here in the UK and has been since 2015.
@Cassiopeia Must be the one listed here under ‘Revenge Porn’
Interesting. I don’t think there is a similar law in the US.
We as a society have lost the notion that things are mine because I have it in hands. No a loving wife sends her husband a picture and later after the divorce he puts it on line! Not a criminal case but one of anger issues and just plain stupidity. We, as a society need to come to grips with the anger issues out there and put a stop to it.
How about only sending pix wearing clothes.....?
@AnneWimsey Could be a game they're playing, spicing up life, what ever. No consent is implied for distribution and none should be taken!
I am not sure of the criminality of what you describe but everyone MUST start thinking... When a picture leaves your phone or PC... The world owns it and you no longer have control. That's just a fact!
Some of the pictures or videos are stolen or hacked and distributed that way.... and I don't think the solution to a crime is telling people not to engage in given behaviours, but rather, punishing the offendors. I used to think like you, especially since I have never taken a nude pic, but that does not mean those that have deserve to have their lives ruined for some fun.
@demifeministgal Point taken and I agree with you... To a point. Everyone else can do it if they like... But I only do nudes in person. No cameras...
If stolen or hacked, then absolutely... Arrest that asshole!
@demifeministgal tracing them down how? "My phone got hacked/stolen"........
@demifeministgal
I agree. It is a crime and should be punished as a crime
@AnneWimsey I don't know how it is done... I just know that when a bunch of celebrities got their clouds hacked there was some investigation done so there are ways
It seems the seniors here are vehemently opposed to anyone taking a nude and think that a ruined reputation and ruined career are just punishments for making the foolish mistake of taking a nude... for me, the punishment is way too excessive and should not fit the stupidity... then there's the funny quote I came across, which is hyperbolic and tongue in cheek: "Could you imagine if dick pics ruined someone’s career? There would be no male politicians!"
"Just punishments"???? How about "actions have consequences", ? a concept anyone must understand as they go through life. Choosing to drive drunk, or shop lift, or take nudes & put them on the internet....stupid, incredibly stupid and no one would advise you to do the first 2, yet yell "victim" if YOU Do So knowing what can & will happen. A nude poster must get undressed, groomed (I hope!) posed, take the pix & send them....a far cry from a woman who has been raped, abused, tricked out of money, etc. who is Actually a victim. Taking nude pix of yourself & sending them off where you Know you have lost control the minute you hit "send" is NOT being a victim, it's being STUPID, period!
@K9Kohle789 you really need to stop taking this so personally I will forever defend victims of revenge porn even though I have no nude pics out there.... die mad about it!
@AnneWimsey nudes are typically not shared on the internet, they are shared via these things called smartphones... y'all may have heard of them? They then get transferred onto the internet by the depraved perp. The more you know
Also, false equivalency aka TERRIBLE analogy... drunk drivers and thieves HURT or can hurt other people. Nude pics hurts nobody unless disseminated without consent, and then just hurt the one taking the pics. You see the difference yea?
@demifeministgal ummm and once you send one, you have totally lost control of it, yes? And smartphones are directly connected to the internet, it is what makes them "smart"....????!!! And nude pix can indeed hurt the "model", perhaps many years later, by keeping them from getting a good job, for example. Which, BTW, the reason they don't get the job/promotion is because the potential employer sees how dumb they are, not their nakedness per se.
@AnneWimsey although I would never send a nude pic to anyone. I wouldn't compare it to driving drunk or shopllifting .. Your examples are ridiculous...
@Cutiebeauty all very poor choices that can severely impact the perpetrator's life...period!
What is ridiculous is to to call fools who, after thought, grooming themselves, posing, snapping, & sending pix they would Not want 99% of their family & friends to see, never mind the entire world, "victims."
@Cutiebeauty, @Doraz never said it was wrong, said it was STUPID. and I really, really question your stats.......
@AnneWimsey stats? What stats? Are you referring to me or @doraz?
@Cutiebeauty the "stats" that "most young people have nudes out there".....Riiiggghhhtttt
@Doraz if it is "normal" than it by definition is the majority, at least half.) Which I strongly doubt.
@demifeministgal "personally"....?????????? I am trying to get across to people, especially young women, how incredibly foolish they are to do this! I can tell it is too late for you, but it is SUCH a bad idea and a way to learn how Not to trust real fast, in a nasty way.
@AnneWimsey Yes I acknowledged that the model in question would be hurt but I think you stopped reading my reply? So it hurts the person but not OTHER PEOPLE ALSO, as drunk drivers and thieves do.
I also think another poster made a good suggestion even though we disagreed, one can take a nude without one's face or any personal identifiable info/imagery.... that way even if they do get shared, nobody can prove who it is. I also think we teach young women that it may be illegal what is happening to them and they can seek legal recourse.
@demifeministgal because the parents, grandparents, brothers/sisters of the poster remain "above it all"? (When all their friends are offering lingering "sympathy"?) Because an employer loses what might be a great employee? Because we as taxpayers get deprived of a great Judge or public defender, or teacher? You are amazingly foolish!
@AnneWimsey And you are amazingly outdated and archaic... clearly this is a discussion to be had amongst younger women as all old women can offer is judgement, condemnation and condescension... go to bed grandma... we are done here. As I said elsewhere, older does not always mean wiser.
@demifeministgal too bad so sad your pix are already out there, and you must justify it with falsehoods about "everybody does it" and resort to name-calling.....incidentally, in 1968, before any internet or smartphones, my then-husband, overseas in the Navy, asked for nude pix of me to "ease his lonliness". I refused. There is Nothing new under the sun, only infants think there is.
@Doraz you both assume sending nudes is a new thing,,,,duuuh.
And, again, so sad too bad, if you really thought you were doing the "right thing" or being trendy, you would not feel so defensive. I feel bad for your families! I never waste time on stupid.
@AnneWimsey So I thought I was being trendy by not taking a nude?? I think you need to take a nap or getting STRONGER prescription glasses if you think any of that. OR has senility hit you already? oh dear. And if you knew what my family was like you would not feel sorry for them at all... you would feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with them... so it is you that appears stupid by saying that. XD lol
@AnneWimsey I mean if you think it is sad that my fully clothed pics are out there, then you MUST feel sad for yourself as well since your pics are out there too. hmmm
You know what else I am and defend? Women's right to have an abortion... yet I have never had one. LGTBQ+ rights yet I am not a member of that community. Black lives matter and the rights of visible minorities, yet I am white as a snowflake.... for you see, I can care about issues and causes that do not personally impact me... can you do the same? Seems not. :/
@demifeministgal why are you confusing yourself with Doraz?
@AnneWimsey Because you literally said it is too late for me and my pics are already out there.... because you were SO SURE that the only way I could be against revenge porn or men sharing nudes without consent is because I have experienced this personally... here is a screenshot of YOUR words to me... at least have the integrity to admit you were wrong about me and apologize geeeze! It won't kill you to admit your assumptions were wrong. XD
@Doraz Except that she said it is too late for me and too bad so sad my pics are out there... I mean we should all be equally sad then since all our clothed pics are out there. heh
@demifeministgal again, why are you confusing yourself with someone else....because the Site mis-directed my reply??? Geez, lady.......oh, wait, porn star.....
@AnneWimsey LOL then learn to use the site and learn how to reply to the right person.... this is the online equivalent of if you were replying to doraz but you looked at me the entire time you were talking.... then you got confused why I thought you were addressing me as you stared at me! XD
I gotta say if I were a porn star my life would be much better than it is now due to all the excess money I would have..... so if only! XD heh
@demifeministgal good answer...I wonder how Doraz is doing...oh, wait, she does freebies, I think........
If someone is foolish enough to allow compromising or embarrassing pictures during a relationship they are private. There is never a morally acceptable to distribute them. Passing on an image is wrong as well. it should not be legal. To even ask whether it's o think is disingenuous; a slimy way to try to get permission for something any decent human being knows is wrong.
It is not revenge porn, is just being an asshole and exposing intimacy of others.
Revenge porn has the characteristic of revenge, to punish someone by exposing the intimacy.
IN a certain way exposing without an "offense" (and focus on the "" ) is worse as it is not even a twisted sense of justice.
Why is there revenge, anything? Whose is in control here, self protection is one thing, but wasting time and emotional energy, for what? In even thinking about it, planning, etc. the planner is letting the intended victim control them. It is a waste of time, just like regret is waste of time. GROG
A crime is whatever the applicable law says it is, considering the prevailing interpretation of the law. Then the specific act is adjudicated and found to be criminal or not.
Then there's what you and I think, and we probably don't agree in every case.
Well I think people that get drunk to the point they blackout or do not remember what they are doing is stupid.... but I guarantee if I told people that nobody should get that drunk and not expect to be raped people would say I was victim-blaming, and they would be right! Why is this any different? Why should the consequences to stupidity or stupid lapse of judgement be ruined lives and ruined careers or career prospects?! The punishment does not fit the behaviour imo.
I never said doing it was "right", but people can be assholes and will
betray your trust when it suits them. Know that and act accordingly.
No one can misappropriate your nude pics, if you don't take them in the
first place.
However, and I want to be really clear, the sharing of nude pics without
permission is NOT remotely the same thing as rape.
The two aren't even in the same universe.
While, both are violations of trust and WRONG AF, rape is a physical act of violence.
They are NOT the same.
@KKGator Do you mean general you or specific you... because I can empathize with people for doing stupid things and then being victimized and abused for it... I guess you still need to learn that lesson? Because I have never taken a nude pic but what I saw in the sexy pics group here and what happened to that US congresswoman were wrong and fckd up.
@KKGator My comparison was of the stupid actions namely blackout drinking is just as foolish, if not more so, due to way more potential consequences ie drunk driving, as taking nude pics.
@demifeministgal I mean general "you".
Yes, it IS wrong and fucked up for anyone to post someone else's pics without permission, and I have said that repeatedly.
I never said I didn't empathize with anyone who has had that happen to them.
Don't assume I haven't learned lessons in life, you have NO idea.
My point is doing something stupid isn't an excuse. Especially when it comes to technology.
A lot of the time, our stupidity is exploited by others, and while they're wrong to do it, we don't don't get to hide behind "I did something stupid" anymore.
Most of us no longer have the luxury of doing stupid shit and not suffering the consequences of whatever stupid shit we've done.
It sucks, but it's reality. People aren't going to get "better".
It's not in our nature. Humans have always been predatory toward one another.
Once again, the Law of Unintended Consequences.
Too many people really need to make more of an effort to take that to heart.
Don't put yourself in a position to be victimized.
Again, general "you".
@KKGator I just think if people doing stupid stuff that leads to criminal consequences like that baby falling out the window, get to have excuses made for them certainly people that take nude pics and share them with a trusted one get to have excuses made for them too. Don't you ever get tired of your hyper-vigilance and consider it a hindrance? I know I do.
@demifeministgal I do not.
Life experience has taught me that being hyper-vigilant is NOT a hindrance.
I'm grateful for mine.
You asked for "thoughts" in your original post.
I gave mine.
@KKGator well it has been good for you... others are sick of theirs... we are all different it seems.
@demifeministgal I'm still alive because of it.
If we're smart, we go with our strengths.
@KKGator I've never considered it a strength
@demifeministgal this happened in my group? Why didn't you send me a pm about it with the relevant link? I am the host of sexy pics... Any member who sees a problem within a member hosted group should contact the host of that group first...
as for a person drinking untill they black out ans should accept the consquenses i do not agree with you the person in a black out has no idea what is happening to them and therfor can't not stop it
it is easy to say that people should not drink to that piont of blacking out there is a desease out there that is called alcoholism and once that persom picks up the drink they can not stop over time they will break thier morals and also lose sight of who they are many times will say i will not drink today and wondering what went wrong
One concept I don't see here , is of someone taking photos you are not aware are being taken . There are a lot of tiny , unnoticeable cameras , than can be set up that , you wouldn't even know were there . You get to take the hit on that if the pervert choses to post them . Even if later punished for their actions , which would be difficult to prove , the victim will still have to deal with the damage done to their reputation .
How would these posts be unintentional????
As in the guy had no desire to ruin the career or reputation of the woman/en in question, he just wanted to share nudes with others that appreciate nudes.
@demifeministgal well you are being a stickler for the definition, but it's extremely wrong to post pics not of yourself without authorization, and probably illegal too.
