Why are so many people on this site still obsess on religion? Get past it and focus on something more productive in your lives. Don't waste your time or energy. There are millions of other topics more worthy of sharing and discussing than religion.
It still affects our lives, especially the political arena. And besides, it is easy to bash and fun. And points
We have some invaders who think they can "save" us by confronting us with their "logic".
Congrats on your achievement. But realize, everyone is on a spectrum and at a different point in their journey. Just because you reached the finish line early, doesn't mean the race is over. It never ends. And you'll see evidence of that all around you - like you're obviously pointing out without understanding, right now. I'm sure at one point, you fell into the very group you are admonishing. Unless you've never spoken a single word about religion yourself, that is. Also, honestly ask yourself your reasoning for this post. What were your motivations? Do you know what "Virtue Signaling" is, and why people use it? It might provide some insight into your reasoning for doing so.
Many members on this site were brought up in religious families and societies; thus religion has had a very real influence on their lives and in many cases they feel that leaving it behind improved their lives - so it's understandable that they may wish to discuss religion in order that they might assist others who are unhappy to escape religion. That's admirable.
Others, such as myself, were raised in a non-religious, even anti-religious (my family were ambivalent and didn't really care either way; my school and university were avowedly opposed to religion) background, but may simply interested in other human beings, different cultures and how other individuals differ from ourselves. That's also admirable.
There are also several of us on this site who come from scientific backgrounds and have an interest in how religion has affected human culture (I'm in that group too - as an archaeologist, I'm interested in how religion inspires some people to create art and monuments, and its role in funerary rites. Modern religion may provide a lifelong atheist with some insight).
So, to sum up, we can all discuss religion if we want to and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I grew up in a religious family and was very active in the church as a teenager. But I left religion behind in my 20s, and had nothing to do with religion at all since the age or 30. I dislike it intensely when religious people attempt to proselytize me and I do not ant to do it to them. Also, I understand the aberrant psychology of the religious "true believer" and know that such efforts simply do not work in most cases. You only irritate them and yourself. It is better to work on making your life the best you can without religion and assist others who have doubt or who have already made the choice.
Its almost as annoying and as much of a waste of time as complaining about it is.
Takes a shitload of chutzpah to post something so banal and boring when calling people out for not posting things that interest you. Step up your game if you don't like what's being posted and put all those interesting topics out there to discuss on your own instead of demanding others entertain you.
You seem to find it easy to be judgmental.
1...In this country religion has a profound effect on our laws and politics both of which affect our lives on a daily basis.
2...You get new members on a daily basis who have not had these conversations in some cases with anyone ever and need these discussions.
3... No one is making you stay here.
You need to look beyond the front page and into the groups, the front page is really only for those new to the site and general background engagements. Having said that I often wonder, if this is a site for agnostics and atheists, why is so much of the front page about US politics ? But there you go, everybody tries to find the way to fulfill their needs.
I disagree. I have been on the site for over two years, and I have never liked the division of people on the site to self-reinforcing echo chambers. I use primary the general forum and will continue to do so. I am quite sure that I am not the only one.
I agree totally but this is probably the last boat out fo some. They need to debrief somewhere.
I do think, however, if they are still banging on about rookie material at Level 7 they have missed the point somewhere!
