Who knows anything/everything about Google home that can give a neophyte some advice? I want to set up something easy but effective. I live alone 3 bedroom house with stairs, with some minor health issues. I'm 62 and would like to stay in the house as long as possible.
You are where I was before I moved. 3BR, two story with full basement. I’m glad I moved into this one story house. It has a basement but later I can ignore it and just live upstairs. I will want to relocate the laundry upstairs later. The problem is that nobody builds small houses like this anymore. It was hard to find this one.
This suggestion may seem horrible but I did it in my folks' house when they turned 70, grab bars next to the toilet and in the shower. A few years later they were grateful. FYI if you are hospitalized a few things like this may help avoid rehab hospital as they assess whether you are safe.
Be sure you have both a bedroom & bath on the first floor! If not, move now while you still can, otherwise assisted living is in your future, social services evaluates your home before you can return home after a significant hospitalization!
I have a split entry foyer. Which means a short flight of stairs up to get to the main level. Yeah, I'm screwed. Of course once I am upstairs all is good. The laundry is in the basement. That is something to think about.
@HippieChick58 I will, in the next year, be putting an "all in one" small washer-dryer combo in my bathroom. Leaving the normal sized ones downstairs for heavy bedding and the like. Steep old stairs dumping a falling body into a rock/concrete wall ain't doing it for me anymore...after 45+ years in this house. The units are Not cheap, and only do small loads, but beat the hell out of traction!
@HippieChick58 one of those chairs that give you a ride up the stairs?
