Anybody out there have the same issue I have with the mass commercialism of this time of year?
I ignore the hype, not allowing myself to be bullied (or brainwashed) into senseless consumerism. I have spent as much of my purchasing power this last year in less conventional ways: second hand shopping or bartering/trade, keeping as much money in the hands of my neighbors and out of those of the corporate execs.
I can only shake my head as folks around me, who can't afford a pot to piss in, rush to the stores like obedient little spenders, going even deeper into debt acquiring yet more crap that no one needs.
I do have some issues with it. But I think there is a shift in the winds coming back.
Not really. If you can afford it buy into it, if you can’t don’t,
The problem is not commercialism it’s the accompanying peer pressure.
Commercialism has been around since trade routes. How we relate to it is where the challenges lie?
