A 'blue zones' diet: Live longer from what you eat? [cnn.com]
There we go again. Another diet. Another great discovery. Another magic solution and doors open to more marketing.... books, classes, TV shows, fanatic clubs and merchandise. Hurry... the offer ends today!
First it was No Carb Diet, then the Paleo Diet, the Vegan Diet, Low-Carb Diets, Mediterranean Diet, Dukan Diet, the Ultra-Low-Fat Diet, Atkins Diet, HCG Diet... and Zone Diet?
Each time a new diet came, it dismissed the theory of the previous magic discovery. Every diet claimed they have the magic pill. But guess who was right all along? The Grandma. The good old magic pill was = moderation + activity + good sleep + low stress.
As a long term Type II diabetic, I can tell you Atkins was/is right!
The Blue Zone idea has been around a long time--it just didn't have a snappy buzzword. Because of my past time spent in Mediterranean countries, I've been doing / eating / living all the same ideas for over half my life. I'm glad that Natl Geo did the Blue Zones project because it helps many other people catch on to the idea. I'm old as dirt, and I'm healthier than most people 10 to 15 years my junior.
The trouble with all these diets is they are often a short time thing used to lose weight. Afterward the person goes right back to the same old bad habits. Health means adopting a lifestyle that promotes health and sticking to it.
