Has anyone else been brought up into a family with quite a few self-centered narcissists?

Pop psychology is cool and fun, but fairly useless.

But narcissistic disorder is not pop psychology... it is real.... it is in the DSM and the ICD. Or did you mean armchair psychology?

My family has just one, my brother.

Wait! I am a self-centered narcissist, so I guess I'll answer Yes

I am an only child so it must be me. The self-centered narcissist, I so wish I had some siblings to carry the burden for me.

Yes.
I escaped as soon as I could.
It wasn't pleasant, and it has taken a LONG time to recover from.
The scars still exist.

It IS, however, survivable.

Does it seem like the Christian god is a self-centered narcissist? He needs constant praise and no other images except his. If you praise him a lot and have a "personal relationship" you get to go to heaven and spend eternity singing praises to him. Me, when my time comes I'd rather just die and feel I tried to leave, in some small way, the world in a better place.

To those with little to no genuine self-esteem, anyone with a healthy, balanced self appreciation and self love will appear to be Narcissistic simply because they lack poor self-image. Narcissists aren't so common that they accumulate in close proximity to one another. Plenty of emotional space is required for it to be 'all about them'. If concentrated, they're more often seen in places like Hollywood, university faculties, federal and state political machines and corporate upper echelons blowing smoke up each others' asses.

I disagree. They populate the environment in far greater numbers than
most people realize.
There can also be more than one in families.
They don't require that much "space" to exist.

Yes sir, my older brother, but I didn't even realize it until my Dad pointed it out, I just thought he was a massive asshole. There are usually two, my Mum is a close second, I think. They have different levels of narcissistic tendencys. Hang in there and don't be afraid to seperate yourself from them, cheers!

I guess my mother who just turned 92. When I was a kid she had no respect for my privacy or my stuff. She threw it all away when I ran away from home from both parents physical and emotional abuse. My mother comes first always. She'll throw something away rather than offer it or donate it to charity. She once took an antique Singer sewing machine to the dump.

I hope someone at least saw it and snuck it out. When antiques are gone they are gone. Such a shame.
