Just a question.

If I type the word "Fuck" then I've stated a profanity but what if I just type it as "F-ck." have I still stated a profanity? What if I take it a step further and just type "F--k." is that better? How about "F---." is that better still? What if I just type it as "the F word?" Have I completely absolved myself of posting a profanity?

Haven't I actually stated a profanity regardless? In all instances, I've communicated that I'm using the word, "Fuck" no matter how I've tried to mask it.

To my way of thinking, if the idea is communicated, what real difference is there in how it's referenced? And yet, it makes a big difference to people.

I'd just type the word, and anyone who tells me I shouldn't can fuck off.

I am told that in some languages, there are no profanities. It may just be an English thing, so I will write any word I like, I think the only thing you have to worry about in some places on the net , is not people, but robot programs who edit/report mindlessly. And why is it so wrong to write words about perfectly healthy things such as consentual sex, yet truly nasty references like 'Evil' for example, are OK. So I hope that tells you all you need to know , you #### ##### #### ###, evil #### ######.

That's telling me off!

hmmm I tend to think of the online version of this, as 1. a way to avert being banned or deleted. 2. a way to avoid people just deleting your post. Of course some people are truly bothered by it.. and I"m not sure why they are bothered by it.

Neither am I. If the idea has been communicated, why be bothered by the word? People already understand that's what's being said. This goes for all words that trigger people.

Yes, you have said it, and people that spell them with hyphens or letters missing or replaced are only fooling themselves in a rather idiotic manner. It's like saying "I can think it, but saying it is a no-no", as if the connotation behind the word isn't the bad thing, it's the word itself.

EDIT:

Exactly. I see it as completely irrational.
