They say 90 percent of what you worry about won't happen. So, instead of praying thay something bad won't happen would't one's chances be better by worring that it will?!
We all worry. We are problem solving machines. When we lived in caves, if we heard a rustle in the trees, more than likely it was the wind but those who didn't react often ended up some bear's dinner. The nervous Nelly's who jumped at the sound and got away or armed themselves, survived. We are descended from those nervous Nelly's. Anxiety isn't here for us to ruminate on. We have anxiety to prepare and act. Be grateful you have it.
Reminds me of what an old friend said years ago: "Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you don't have."
Anyway, what if “they” were rounding up to be optimistic, assuming no one would ask to see a peer reviewed study with evidence asserting that particular finding. What if it’s really just 50/50...or 70/30 against?!?! Are you willing to risk your salvation or dignity on a cliche expression? Just do something to prepare for the worst while simultaneously working to facilitate the best possible scenario.
Poorly paraphrasing someone famous, worry or don’t, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
As for prayer...evidence?
Be active about the direction of your life, take steps to mitigate loss and work to facilitate gain.
(And when you figure it all out, write a book and retire like you just won the lottery)
Neither seem like healthy choices. Mark the box "none of the above" if you get this one on a test.
Only worry about what you can control!
If you control it, there's no reason to worry
@Cutiebeauty That is assuming that one is always 100% correct and never makes a mistake. I am not sure about you... But I make them. I also learn from them. They call that "experience" and I have A LOT of that! LOL
Worrying about everything is just a form of anxiety. Pick your concerns that are actually important and take real action to address them.
I had a friend who worried every day about everything, building a chain of "what if's" miles long, none of which could ever happen. Exhausting & ultimately I concluded she wasn't very smart and she enjoyed the self-created drama. Bleh.
Worrying without doing anything about it isn't very effective... Be pro active
Hmmm your prayer is more likely to be "answered in your favor" if you pray that some fear won't happen and there's a natural 90% likelihood that it won't happen anyway.
"I prayed that i would not win the lottery and prays be to Jesus my prayers were answered!"
"They say" you wrote. Who is "they"?
I guess it would be "the anonymous voice of public opinion." Anyway, it's what the preacher said in church Sunday morning, and that's when it hit me that it could be taken to imply that worry is an effective way to manipulate the future.
I think almost every day that I have things all figured out. Sometimes I worry that what I have figured out might happen, but it doesn't. The real key is to avoid stress and worry, and for the most part I do that.
Weird things do happen though. Not so long ago I bought a screwdriver with 40 bits to it and I remembered putting it away somewhere. Needing it this weekend I looked everywhere and could not find it. Looking in one closet for the tenth time I was bordering on insanity when suddenly there it was in plain sight. I moved it again so it will become more obvious but most things we are looking for in life are always in plain sight.
To worry about something just like paying interest on a debt that you do not have. I prefer the Alfred E. Neuman method.
What, me worry?
