Originally a faggot was a bundle of sticks used to start a fire or to help keep it going. Homosexuals were called this because they were burned to death for being homosexual. They were basically the "faggots" that kept the fire going.
To call a bundle of sticks a faggot is acceptable, or to even call a cigarette a fag, is acceptable as they are true to the original meaning. To call a person a faggot, to me, is hurtful and not excusable.
