She is wise beyond her years. I love that she wouldnt talk to him. Why talk to someone who can't learn anything new and is so internally focused, he can't even hear others.

I do not care what she says. She is an immature, ill-behaved brat. She needs to finish growing up and school first which includes rules for basic decent behavior in public. Many social issues are caused by people who were not launched properly in the world by their parents. No child would yell at world leaders where she is invited, she would have a poise, respect and make her argument convincingly, she would make a full use of the opportunity and time given to her. She blew it and caused a big disillusionment in the world about her campaign. But this would make no difference to people who believe in the cause but still see everything right in all wrongs.

@ToolGuy That is what I was saying and I knew it. No matter what Greta does, it will be gold to you. That is what fanaticism is, not reason.

@hankster You have your opinion, I have mine. I am not asking to change yours. I am sticking to me. I am not impressed at all.

@ToolGuy The UN speech was what got the most attention. You can do 100 good things, one serious mistake can wash it all. This should come from parents. They missed teaching her that. There are many young heroes - better than Greta in the world who are quietly doing their work, do not travel in yachts navigated by the prince of Monaco not have cameras on the yacht throughout, they don't get press, they do not expect any, they do not stay in 5 star hotels in New York.... you will see all golden. You will not see anything good in ordinary, common people who are dark. I gave better examples of what young people do around the world, I gave an example of a young girl who was younger than Greta who spoke at the UN and won hearts... but you will still adore Greta. Greta has misbehaved on may occasions but you will not see it. That is how Trump supporters are. That is where the problem is. We fund and fight for a cure for diabetes - the rich man's disease but not care of malaria... that is where the problem is. Who are you preaching?

@hankster Facts? I just gave the fact of what happened at the UN. Was that all fake news?

@ToolGuy You can cite progressive sources all you want and I can send you sources where detailed criticism of her is well explained. Why are you right? I like to decide for myself.

@hankster She has supporters, she has critics. Trump has supporters, Trump has critics. Pelosi has supporters and she has critics. Everybody is right in his or her mind. I like people thinking independently and not joining the chorus. Hundreds others singing her songs will not impress me.

@hankster I have posted and commented extensively about my view on climate change. I think we should certainly do everything we can about clean air, clean water and better environment but I disagree that it is the top issue. Greta and you may not worry about babies dying just with hunger and eradicated diseases which are totally avoidable. There is no urgency and there is impending mayhem with climate change. Our Nobel Laureate and Academy winning celebrated hero Al Gore said the world would freeze in 2014. But we are here. The end of the world has been predicted 8 times in the last 70 years. It is a rich man's problem just like diabetes is. People are fighting for survival today, just they fought and did not survive yesterday. Just survival. They do not have shiny hotels in New York, no yachts of prices, no glaring cameras and no front page news with the glamor and publicity. They are dying quietly while we celebrate Kardashians and Gretas. Yes, I have a problem with the overblown problem with a lot of glitz of climate change. Is Bill Gates jumping up and down with Greta? He is busy eradicating the simple problems of no toilets and malaria in the world. We are just herds.

@hankster If you don't keep glorifying her, I will resist giving my opinion.

@hankster There is nothing to learn. Trust me. She needs to grow up first. You can continue to get impressed. It will not happen to me. I learn from authentic and ordinary people in ife.

@ToolGuy She is your hero, not mine. Just remember. A Trump supporter can argue with you and you should think about accepting his arguments.

@ToolGuy Why can't people see her, hear her and make their own opinions? Why do I have to accept yours? Why should I accept a misbehaving brat, who does not know what respect is..., is about sparkle and dazzle before cameras, travels in a Monaco prince navigated flashy yacht to show compassion for a very urgent issue, lives in a privileged, affluent world where the is no hunger, no 3rd world diseases, has not finished school and is yelling at grown up at elders at a world body that she was invited at? What good she have there? I have better role models and heros to adore and support. No Thank you. You celebrate your Gretas and Kardashians.

@ToolGuy You worry about about you. No about what I unable to do. I am unable to many things and able to do many others. You have no idea. You be happy in your phony world in the comfort of own home worrying about world problems and telling how others should think.

@ToolGuy That is nerdish language. Common people never think that. They know a simple life. They talk food, shelter, crying and wanting. The would say fuck your Krugar...

@ToolGuy, @hankster You keep saying authentic. I keep saying phony. Who is right?

@hankster, @ToolGuy Are you authentic? I think not. Let us resolve that first.

@ToolGuy I am saying I am right. You are not. I possess something you and Greta combinedly don't. You are probably not aware of that. Are you? I think not because you are handing judgements about other members

@St-Sinner well I loved her speech had she been a politician that would be different. I don t come from the world where children should be silent . She spoke from the heart. She is not a polished speaker, however young people around the world were moved into action. She has do e well. I excuse the lack of speaking skills.

@ToolGuy I have been wrong many times and I have apologized. But you are right. I have not been wrong because Greta has done a good job of convincing me of that.

@hankster Thank you. I am here if you want to chat. It is invigorating.

@AmmaRE007 It is not polish. It is much more that. It is basic manners and values we teach to children. That comes from upbringing and this is common when unprepared children are launched in life. If you are suggesting your world teaches children to speak without a regard to who you are talking to, how you are talking, are you carrying your point across, are watching your manners, do you remember the basic tenets of decency and etiquettes, are you wasting the uncommon opportunity that is a privilege granted to you.... that world has a problem. I do not want to be in that world.

Many leaders are not worthy of respect.Being older isnt a reason to be respected, or being in power if you're an idiot.

@gigihein Granted but this is not about leaders. This is about you and who you want to be. Being ill-mannered, unthoughtful, uncomposed makes a statement about you. You are telling people what your parents taught you and how you are growing up.

@St-Sinner You lost me.

@gigihein We were talking about Greta, not leaders. We don't allow others to make us what we are not.

I'd say that sailing around the world, meeting leaders, giving speeches and being involved in activism is a better launching than most parents are able to provide their children.

She may be a bit immature but she is only 16. No she shouldn't grow up first. Her entire appeal is that she is a child who is fully dedicated to this cause. She is the representative of the children who will have to clean up the mess that we are making. I'd say her being rude to leaders is justified. It's more rude of them to do nothing while the crisis continues. In your view she blew it. As I see it, her outburst caused a big splash. It got lots of people talking about this issue and that is her entire purpose. So I'd say she nailed it.

@RoboGraham
It only comes down to 2 things:

  1. She is a bad spokesperson, only causing a harm to the cause, There are many others who are doing a better job
  2. There is no crisis, it is a concern and we should all be aware of it and do our part to reduce it

@St-Sinner if there is no crisis, why does it matter if she does harm to the cause?

@RoboGraham Not my words, Climate Change activists have said it after the UN conference. To me, she is just an annoyance we do not ned. The world is full of honest, not attention-seeking, on the ground activists who are doing their quietly. I can find inspiration from many young people who are supporting parents, attending schools, walk 5 miles to school and doing their part to help a good cause.

@St-Sinner It sounds like the problem you have with her it's that she is too vocal. But being vocal is her function. She is an activist, the more people are aware of her and her message the better. The fact that she has inspired you to write all of these comments on this topic means that she is doing her job well.

@RoboGraham You are guessing but you have not read my extensive comments everywhere on Agnostic. Her being vocal is the least of it. I am not going to try to convince faithfuls because it is not necessary for me. I gave my opinion and do not want to spend time in convincing you. You be happy in the world you want to live in. Celebrate Greta and more like her.

My world is not of people living yachts, botox, shiny buildings, Photoshopped humans in glossy magazines, processed and fast foods, babysitters, glorifying entertainers, rich people and politicians above teachers and farmers and sending parents to hospices. I lived in the real world where kids walk to school, work in fields, struggle for medicines and still feed every visitor who come to their doors. They are down to Earth and authentic. Their heroes can never be phonies like Gretas, Kardashians and Paris Hiltons. They don't live as good as pets here do. But they do their work quietly away from cameras and front pages of the rich world. I am happy with my standards and I am not going to convince you of why that is better. It took me living through 5 decades, 5 countries and 11 cities in across 7 careers to understand what I saw.

@St-Sinner So she is too wealthy to be a proper activist? I don't like Kardashians and Paris Hilton either but I don't see Greta as being anything like them. They are frivolous wastes of space while she is a woman on a mission.

@RoboGraham Let her finish school, finish growing up, learn basic rules of behavior, learn how to articulate arguments and convince a crowd, take the time to understand the dimensions of the issue, explain why this is the most important issue above all in the world first. "How dare you" is not an argument or the best opening line. Her parents missed it big time. Once she is ready, maybe some people will listen. She is shallow, she is not ready. You be happy with her heroics.

@RoboGraham I see no difference between Paris Hilton and Greta - yachts, shiny hotels, cameras, immature talking..... Common characteristics.

2

absolutely. Plus she would use big words like climate change and cooperation that he wouldn't understand

3

She is absolutely right. It is a waste of breath, arguing with the hopelessly stupid!

1

Yup, I do.
