I'm posting this not to troll anyone, or start a caustic dialogue, but to ask my Conservative compadres, and fellow Trump supporters, to consider objectively the path President Trump seems to be on. For whatever reason, be it personal gain, naivety, mental illness, or even good intentions; it appears to me that we are following the model of circa 1930s Germany.
I voted for President Trump. And I'll stand by my belief that he was the lesser of two evils. I fear though, that the historical pattern is all too evident. Unfortunately, I see no viable alternative in the Democratic Party frontrunners. My perception about this is shared with most of my social group. Is there a way out of this dilemma? I'd appreciate constructive thoughts and dialogue on this. Thanks for reading.

I, too was torn between Trump and Clinton. I was tempted to just "stay home"...and I read that 100 million did just that.

Before I continue; you should know I support conservative POV....except, of course, their clinging to the tenets of Christianity. You could say that I'm an agnostic/progressive with Conservative leanings.

Trump and his ilk have really strayed off the Conservative agenda. Conservatives believe in a tight budget. He's put us to record numbers on our debt to other nations...mostly to China.

And now that Clinton has been cleared of all charges, and that the Russian interference is confirmed...it seems like Hillary might have been the smarter choice.

Now I lean toward Bernie. Bernie was my favored choice before Hillary.

How, you might ask..would a Conservative favor Sanders?

Easy. Sanders wants a much tighter budget. Sanders wants a better, healthier citizenry (health care for all). Sanders wants a smarter America with free post HS college and trade school free for those who qualify. Sanders wants to tackle Environmental degradation with a build up of alternative energy and a final crush on fossil fuels. Trump supports fossil fuels...and thinks Wind turbines cause cancer. What a joke he's turned out to be.

Trump and his alleged pseudo-conservative push has led to filling the pockets of the gas and oil barons, while keeping the middle class under the thumb. Not good.

And no...Sanders is not a communist/socialist. He wants democratic socialism. Far smarter. Far more budget - conscious.

So let me conclude by suggesting that everyone plans to vote. We cannot allow the 100 million that stayed home in 2016 to happen - ever again.

I always appreciate your input Rob.

@bigpawbullets And your intellectually far superior to the typical Trump ilk....it's almost hard to believe you still support him.

Please watch the video I linked in the text above;

Longtime columnist George Will recently left the Republican Party in protest of what he sees as its shifting values.

At the Aspen Ideas Festival, Will spoke with Judy Woodruff about his new book, “The Conservative Sensibility,” his perspective on how American conservatism feels about change and government and the “lasting damage” he believes President Trump is doing to the country.

I might have to get and read his book.

Here's that link, again. George and Judy have a great discussion.

Well … tragically ..your “belief” in the lesser of “two evils” was a hideous mistake. Have you learned anything?

So, you “see no viable alternative in the Democratic Party frontrunners”? How bout this - anyone of them is a better person/ human being - and would be a far superior choice to your last..

Your likeness of trump to hitler is apt. Due to the similarities, I ‘listened’ to the volumes of ‘The rise & fall of the 3rd reich’ last year… Yes, both are/ were Malignant Narcissists. The only difference, beyond IQ.. is one was born with a silver foot in it’s mouth - the other not.

Anyone who’d consider voting again for trump is simply despicable, though I find it unforgivable of anyone having done so to begin with..

I'll be voting for President Trump again. Unless our Loyal Opposition produces an as yet unknown candidate. And @Varn ; I don't find you anything other than a passionate member of that Loyal Opposition. Whoever gets elected next time will, of course, be my president.

@bigpawbullets ...and, you’re mistaken again..

@Varn
How so?

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree with your premise. Motivating people to have pride in their country, and lessening government influence in our personal lives and the economy like he has done is the opposite of what a Fascist would do.

That's the dilemma I see Captain. I agree with you on these points. But I think being a rallying force for all citizens is important. And President Trump seems to be losing touch with the overall world situation.

@bigpawbullets I'm with you there, but you have to admit, Liberals didn't think he would get elected to begin with. And when he did, they've done nothing but fight him tooth and nail ever sense. I admit, I'm not sure what he's thinking sometimes when it comes to foreign policies, but I'm sure he's talking to all kinds of advisers and professionals at the Pentagon and Economists before doing anything. Hard to say on that end. But I don't think 'Fascist' is quite the right label anyway.

@Captain_Feelgood
I think you... and certaintly I, would be in the Nationalist camp in Germany, say, 1935 or so. I believe in a strong nationalist viewpoint and take great pride in being an American. Right now. Today, for me... life is good. My fear is that if we continue down this path without effective checks and balances, we'll end up like Deutschland circa 1946.
You're probably correct in Fascist is too strong... right now. Nationalist, while my preference, is very dangerous if not tempered by competent and trustworthy advisors. And President Trump keeps firing those.

@bigpawbullets We're certainly on the same page there my friend. And you're probably right about him firing good people, but I'm thinking we're not really privy to the inside story on these actions. He had to have had a good reason,,, in his mind anyway. It makes me think of that obnoxious lady on that Game Show saying "And You Are... The Weakest Link... Good bye". 😄 And yes, we do need checks and balances. I'm thinking folks like Trey Gowdy and even ole Mitch will bend his ear a bit if they see the need. But for now, unless someone like Trey were to run against him on the Republican ticket, I'll still be voting for him again. Man, wouldn't it be nice if Trey were to run? 😏

No caustic zone /off.

...but to ask my Conservative compadres, and fellow Trump supporters, to consider objectively the path President Trump seems to be on.

Roflmao

They're so far past that. That you still think you voted for the lesser of 2 evils, and your "analysis" that Biden or Warren are both as, or even more, corrupt and inept than President Trump means, to me, that you have no objective analytical skills at all on this.

No candidate is perfect and all have baggage, issues, and policies that suck. But to think that there's a politician in the race for president that's even equally, let alone more corrupt and inept than Trump, is laughable.

45 is running a cult, and you and your buds are in it. Congrats, you got out of religious cults and into a political cult. Your folks must be so proud.

No caustic zone /on

Be nice if you would realized this during the primaries and supported someone else. Well there's always this [lincolnproject.us]

Now you've hurt my sensitive Nationalist feelings.
😆

@bigpawbullets see, I don't care about hurting cultists of any stripes (JW's, Catholics, Muslims, Trumpsters or Bernie bots) feelings. 😉

@1of5
So, you're in the Anticultist Cult..... 👌😎

@bigpawbullets of course. It's the only one that sucks the least amount of your non existant soul.

@1of5 !!
Great definition of the "Agnostic Cult"
I salute your intellect!!! 👌😆

If it is clear to you that Trump is going down the path of fascism, wouldn't someone like Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren be the lesser of two evils this time around?

In my analysis, they are both as, or even more, corrupt and inept than President Trump.

@bigpawbullets Personally, I'd prefer a corrupt, inept leader over a fascist. I think the fascist is more risky and possibly damaging. I'll have to respectfully disagree with your analysis. Biden is certainly corrupt and inept. Warren, she probably has some corruption going on, they all do but she seems like she would make a halfway decent leader. Trump on the other hand is up to his ears in corruption and I haven't seen many successes in his administration so far.

@RoboGraham
I certainly respect your thoughts on this. I'm unwilling to trade a known problem for an unknown one. I just wish either the GOP or the Democrats would field a true Statesman for us.

@bigpawbullets Is there anyone you have in mind?

@RoboGraham
That's the problem. It appears to me that Trump & Biden are the best our political parties can do. And that's depressing.

@bigpawbullets That is very depressing. But to my eyes, there is a glimmer of hope in an until recently independent Senator who has been fighting for the working class for decades.
