Wishing upon a star is a waste of energy. To be human is to experience the human condition. Railing against it or fantasizing that it were different from what it is, is unhelpful.
My personal purgatory is no better or worse than the next person's, ultimately. I'm fed up with some things other people haven't even experienced (e.g., grief / loss of close family members); I'm sanguine about things that other people haven't adequately dealt with (e.g., the fear and loathing of mortality). So what? It's just how my life has happened to play out.
My philosophy is, "it's always something". If not my particular set of "issues", then some other. Learn to deal with what life throws at you, whatever that is. To the extent you have been assigned a "job", that's it.
