'If your life is not working out, the entire world looks bad.
If things are going great, the entire universe looks in harmony.'
I think true.
Agnostics can, then, if this is correct, either 'don't know,' as in,
"Religious nuts are ruining everything! I don't know, but maybe we should abolish religion NOW!"
OR, as in,
"People are increasingly secular and humanist. Could it be only a matter of time before religion dries on the vine and blows away?"
Apply to just about everything
"Climate change will be irreversible soon if it isn't already. I don't know but I think we're doomed."
OR:
"Climate change is real and MAY extinct us, but 1) technology might bail us out, 2) does it really MATTER? We all go extinct individually. Maybe the Earth needs a good scrubbing!"
See?
It all depends on your point of view.
When reading posts, keep it in mind.
We can only hope it will dry and blow away. The religious disconnect from reality is real and dangerous.
Whether we can turn back climate warming is a bit iffy, agreed. But the thing about "having a good scrubbing" may or may not happen. I am not one to sit on my laurels, so if we can individually get tough with ourselves we might pull it off.
But that means reducing travels, conflicts and procreation...unfortunately all i can do is say, "good luck"
My opinion does not alter facts. Its when people insist that their beliefs trump reality (no pun intended) that I speak up.
Abraham Hicks says we constantly choose what happens next in our universe, even if we don't realize it.
For example, you can have a loser life, but if you fall in love, suddenly everything you touch is golden, you're in love with the world, and the world with you. You have courage to start businesses and confidence to solve problems, etc.
Nothing changed except your thoughts.
I’m not sure whether you’re Just depressed with the futility of it all or, like Socrates fishing for thoughts and arguments. If like Socrates that’s good. Lots to mull over which is as good as any life purpose.
You're suggesting one's outlook is based on his/her state of mind?
C'mon, Storm, stop posting filler.
Religion... pure and faultless is this: to help widows and orphans in need and avoiding worldly corruption. James 1:27
Why does helping widows and orphans while avoiding worldly corruption need to be abolished and why do you consider these types of people nuts?
I chuckle every time I see you post this ridiculous statement.
@motrubl4u thanks for the new example of ad hominem fallacy attacks. I will ad them to my collection to use in helping to teach illogical atheist how to be logical.
@Shawno1972 I can not complain that you get some chuckle, I don't mind people laughing. I would not consider your statement a direct ad hominem fallacy attack, but it does show your psychological meme or mind set you have.
@Word I don't have a problem with a little ad hominem now and again, especially since it is the most satisfying of the fallacies and not used to prop up a defense of any particular point in this case. I just have one tip: if you do happen to care how you come across, self-awareness ought to be a subject of study rather than The Booble.
@Shawno1972 I understand my verbiage and seem .... direct? Blunt? Assertive, maybe? But that is just how words can seem. As to my personality or how I might would try to conversate in person I have been told I am rather humble and rather well reserved. I would not deny some occasional exceptions because exceptions happen sometimes.
Otherwise, I do not really know how to not be straight forward or blind in a way such as me directly calling atheism illogical. I do not address s person specifically as such, but it is atheist that like this atheist label that gets upset because I attack their holy cow. I try to not attack s person, perhaps I have at times. However, I find when I refer to illogical atheism, atheist take it illogically, that is personally.
@Word I don't have any reason to believe you're anything but a good dude. But I have no idea how what you just said relates to my point, sorry.
@Shawno1972 You may of had a main point that you were making but what I was addressing was your statement in you former statement that stated, " ...if you do happen to care how you come across, self-awareness ought to be a subject of study..."
Does what I had previously said have anything with my indication of self awareness on how I come across?
@Word What I offered was a tip, not an invitation to explain. It does not matter to me how you see yourself or how self-aware you are. I chuckle at your frequent use of that James I verse to interject a rather inane non-sequiter into posts like this. As if James, ostensibly but not conclusively the "brother of Jesus," could have the slightest clue what religion is for. I rather think that's one of the many reasons why "his" epistle barely made it into canon. Why do you keep dredging up that nonsense?
@Shawno1972 it has been written for almost 2000 years the definition of religion. Why change it all the sudden in modern times?
@Word It has been written for a great deal longer than 2000 years. Yours must be the "revised edition," suggesting whatever came before it wasn't up to snuff just yet. Which, by the way, ought to make you immediately suspicious of both, if you're the reasonable sort.
@Shawno1972
I am not here to expertly articulate all the verfied puzzles pieces together. I am not claiming historicity of the biblical text as 100 % accurate but what little I know that has been verfied gives for solid evidence that there is something to the biblical text. As for what is considered written by at least 40 different authors over 1000s of years and it still follows the same theme or plot thru out, a work of genius.
People spend their money on Drugs. Its the new religion and has been for quite a while. The tax on religion and drugs could bank health care for everyone and then some. This is why both the Government and Religion try and keep you smacked around so you never know who is going to come after you next. When the feeling of hopelessness gets overbearing then they have done their jobs in destroying anything normal and sane that you ever wanted to experience. No not on your dime but by what they tell you what you can or cannot. I never did drugs but have seen many who have and still to this day make it the first and foremost way to escape.
Someone I once knew adopted a saying he read on a bathroom wall... "If your life sucks... then you suck." Sometimes I get it, sometimes it pisses me off.
@ToolGuy probably so!
Simple answers!!!
All the above!!!
Yes, we are all individually extinct at some moment undetermined at this time!!!
If you have lost your sense of humor or life why does it matter!!!
Smile like the idiots we are, just be happy!!
LMAO!!!
@TheInterlooper , well clarified, it is McFerrin and not Marley. Some people upload music videos in Youtube without the proper knowledge.
Regardless, we're all going to die, it's just what we do.
One can choose to live on stress and drama, but one must realize this is a choice. If unpleasant events occur and one chooses to interact, well, there you go.
One can choose to walk away or, handle the situation as a learning experience instead of reacting to the chaos.
I find self preservation paramount. This allows me to handle difficult situations with some sense of calm. And I've completely forgotten the initial comment. LOL
I turned off commercial tv, don't even have cable, 5 years now, and I know this has made me a happier person and others notice, even my kids.
Try it for a couple weeks, turn off the news, see how you feel...you've got nothing to lose.
We are trained to have particular attitudes and reactions as we grow up. One may think that one has been conditioned in ways that make good attitudes difficult. But conditioning can be overcome with a good effort to change what is in your head when you know it is not good.
Glass half full, glass half empty...
I say that's more room to add booze.
I do not, nor ever did, feel that "the entire world looks bad" when my life was going (sometimes horribly!) Wrong...in fact being able to see that there was something else out there was comforting & inspiring & helpful!
You're lucky that way. We don't all have that.
@BitFlipper not lucky at all, a simple Choice
@AnneWimsey skills like that always seem simple to those who posess them.
@BitFlipper my Mom told me, "you make your own Heaven or Hell right here every day by your choices". Best advice I ever got! And Heaven/Hell is just "shorthand", no religious content.
@AnneWimsey my mom didn't tell me anything like that.
