My sister in law is always trying to fix me up. I want no part in this. One of her girlfriends dumped her husband and needs someone to be handy around the house. I got nominated without my knowledge or consent. I don't need additional drama in my life. At all. If distancing myself from this makes me a dick, then I'm a dick. So be it.
Be a dick. It's better than being used, which would suck. There are all kinds of times that I could really use somebody taller than me, with more body strength, or with more know how when it comes to repairs. I have several good friends who are always volunteering their husbands to help me, and several male friends with wives who tell me to call if I need help, but I just can't bring myself to do so. Men shouldn't just be at the beck and call of every single woman who can't open a jar by herself.
I have learned to do several things I didn't think I could do on my own simply by watching how-to videos on YouTube.
I'm not aware of anyone ever trying to fix me up with anybody.
Sorry your right to decide what you want in a relationship, including none at all, is getting trampled on. Making your own decisions I'm no way is "dickish" unless you are actually referring to the way some women treat some men.
OTF I didn't know it at the time but my old friend from college, Lee instagated the relationship that developed between me and my ex-husband Tim . Oh I have to see our friend, Scotty's band Mantis perform at a local club in Milford, NH before they go on tour with Aerosmith in Japan as their new opening act! I did go see the band and brought my friend and neighbor at the time, Jim, who is legally blind with me. Somehow I ended up talking to the good looking and entertaining drummer. Later that evening or the next day I received a phone call from him and we talked on the phone for over 2 hours. Then the next night and then I picked him up and brought him over to my place. He had no license, rode his bicycle, and worked in deli for $5 an hour doing construction in between band rehearsals. Needless to say, he moved in with me 2 weeks after I returned from a trip to a singles resort in Jamaica. If I had only said no.........but I have a beautiful healthy 24 year old daughter........ No you are not being a dick OTF.
When someone who know you both tries to put you togeter, you should give it a chance...WTH not?
I agree.
But i will add.... Just don't date a Bernie supporter until the elections are over.
@St-Sinner jeebus effin' Xriest, give it a rest, willya?!
What do you get out of it? Perhaps instead of thinking of this as as your labour being volunteered you can think of it as a job and negotiate a price. I've heard single women complain that they aren't part of the mates network so they can't trade favours as we might swap a plumbing job for a carton of beer. So they are often looking for help they can trust . Personally I'm quite happy to swap handyman help for a couple of hours house cleaning, hot meal, home cooked pudding or cake. Saves me cooking.
