Assumptions What might it be that YOU assume WE assume about you - apart from being earth Humans that is.
Or is there just a tendency to assume anything that annoys you?

‘You’ are also not a conglomerate, each person gets their own view, much like each of us has their own lived experience and language base.
I once had a, supervisor, ( read - work therapist), who said that you speak ‘girl with smiles’ and I speak, ‘frank’, so sometimes we may misunderstand each other; please let me know if you’re aware that this is happening and I’ll do the same - great supervisor.
Otherwise - that I’m a female that smiles
I don’t mind assumptions based on my looks or behaviour, that’s normal I suppose, people are only human. But people that lecture or write articles about, ‘we’ assuming that I identify with the speaker and all of their audience, get me goat.
I once sat through a lecture from a quite famous Person whose intentions were good; to educate about people who were Muslim, after their spending time abroad . But he kept talking about, ‘us and them’ and used the term, ‘we’ a lot. I didn’t share his lived experience, but had had flat mates that were Pakistani Muslim and so had my own experience. I found his lecture painful, but sat through it as wanted to hear the summary. I actually emailed him about it, but never got a reply. It grates on me, and I think is assuming too much.
Why do you not try "We Atheists" or " WE Agnostics " or " We Humanists" or " We busybodies "???? It is about psychology
@Mcflewster probably because we’re quite aware that we’re a diverse bunch? Also we’re not scared of being different, many of us, ‘broke free’ from an established religion. If people say it it generally relates to the literal meaning of the word only.
@girlwithsmiles I want to know if it ever improves your life by using "WE xxxs" as those others do. Only way to find out is to try it?
@Mcflewster we the undersigned have something in common, lols. Sure it’s useful to form groups sometimes.
More of the u and me than I could get my head around. .....and now you're thinking...

@Mcflewster where?
@AnneWimsey You are right . I typed it but it didn't get through . It should have said
This question was asked because assumptions are so important in science and are one of the ways of judging the thoroughness of one's research before you start experimenting In science you should declare all your assumptions e.g. definitions. Of course you will miss many but that is Human nature for you and these often become the source of failure . Best way to get more that matter is to be as open as posssible and ask you friends to check the lists. Best GENERAL advice:-
ASSUME NOTHING
@Mcflewster sorry, you lost me at "assumptions are so important in science"....ummm, no.......
@AnneWimsey I meant ASSUME NOTHING in LIFE never mind in science for the moment. Probably you already assume nothing.
"assumptions are so important in science" is statement of fact.
ASSUME NOTHING in LIFE is a statement of philosophy . Not the same.
@Mcflewster do you mean theories?
@AnneWimsey They are linked to Theories I think as follows. If you do not declare all your assumptions anyone judging your arguments will not know entirely how you got there and what is worse that judgement could also say that your theory is wrong. Not the worst thing in the worlld because you have to start again in your theorising. Who would be a scientist Eh? Actually you already are but all scientists need to help each other particularly over assumptions.
Is Mcflewster the MAD scientist??
