In the US:

Where the hell is my access to testing? As of a local article written about 10 days ago, nobody had been tested in my county. Not one person.

If we have testing we can know our own status and we can know that many more of our peers know their status. We can carry out our day-to-day business with reduced concern. If there really is concern about the economy at the highest levels in the US, then they will throw a huge amount of resources at testing, along with preparing to handle the sick.

Now the con-artist incompetent buffoons at the top of the US government are talking about sending me taxpayer money, but they do not appear to be doing enough to install widespread access to testing. No US bill should be approved for an economic stimulus at least unless it includes full funding for guaranteeing fully widespread unfettered access to testing.

Aside from all of this, I think it should be said, on the economics analysis side (as the world careens through one of the worst financial markets downturns in history, and many have to worry about their employment and incomes), in the US, if the goal of the Administration is to keep an eye on that side of the crisis, then they are getting it wrong. The sooner the US gets better measures in place and flattens the curve, and is able to return to something resembling a society where folks can leave their homes and commune safely (if cautiously) then the sooner the economy can get back on its feet.

What are your symptoms..? Are you saying that, if you knew you weren’t contagious, you’d carry on as usual? Are you wondering why folks shouldn’t?

Everything’s morbidly late, thanks to trump & the republicans. He’s tasked big pharma with mass producing tests, feeding them tax dollars on top of their usual death dollars.. ..so the tests are coming...

Congress is split, and negotiating. If folks don’t fear going broke, they may be less inclined to panic. All’s not well, but everyone appears to be moving toward the same page ~

And from the original WHO Director-General statement:

"...But the most effective way to prevent infections and save lives is breaking the chains of transmission. And to do that, you must test and isolate.
"You cannot fight a fire blindfolded. And we cannot stop this pandemic if we don’t know who is infected.
"We have a simple message for all countries: test, test, test.
"Test every suspected case.
"[...]
"...Once again, our key message is: test, test, test...."

I think once there is enough testing, this could be expanded, but for now I suppose their limitation recommendations make sense.

"....“We have a simple message for all countries: test, test, test,” WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (aka Dr. Tedros) said in a press briefing March 16...."

"....“The most effective way to prevent infections and save lives is breaking the chains of transmission,” he went on. “And to do that, you must test and isolate. You cannot fight a fire blindfolded. And we cannot stop this pandemic if we don’t know who is infected.”..."
