Have anyone ever lost a friend due to being an atheist?
nobody has ever told me that they couldn't be friends because I'm an atheist, but I've deleted people from social media for posting serious religious nonsense.
I went out with a woman I met on a dating site. The next day, she called to tell me that she couldn't date somebody who didn't believe in God. As it happened, she was calling from her cell phone, she was driving, and she had dialed my number as she was on the interstate on-ramp, which I thought was very thoughtless, so I was OK with her decision.
My best friend has been told many times to cut off our friendship. Thankfully, she's declined. She tells them I'm a better person than most Christians. I'm sure there are some who don't associate with me because I'm not religious, but if that's their criteria, I think I'm better off.
My first counsin is a Jehovah's Witness. One July she visited me for a week in Washington State. I took her river rafting and hiking. We had fun together.
But I refused her proslytizing and pamphlets. Told her I'm an atheist. She cut me off after that.
SingTheGuitar, You made me laugh! Torture, indeed.
Yes. Last year I began seeing a lady, 2 issues, she was heavy into booze and dope and super religious, she had issues that I was into none of them. A few months before I had to turf a girl I had known for 55 years, our parents worked together before they were married, I knew her a long time but I didn't know she was religious or how much. She recontacted 2 years back after her mother died. We had a major blow up about marriage equality and well, we will never speak again.
Friends and family who are holy rollers. Oh well, I was willing to be respectful of their choices, but they had to pray for my soul everytime they they saw me. After a while I told them huh, looks like your prayers didn't work. My brother actually told him that his pastor told him that I am an evil entity and he should not allow himself to be exposed to my evil.
I was a minister so I lost my entire community.
Well that sucks to go through
Yes I'm sorry that happened. You showed your character...they showed theirs...
Many of them. They all couldn't agree to disagree and tried to shove their religion back onto me, I never tried to convert them.
My best friend of 25 years was seriously god-struck, but we were able to agree to disagree, and still be friends. But when my first wife and I entered into a committed, living together as a triple, poly relationship with another woman, he demanded that I choose between him and Peggy Lou. I did. That was in 1990, the last time I saw him.
Yep. Her choice, not mine. Sometimes, I miss her, but not her constant god-crap.
She used to be fun, but the older we got, the more she would preach at me about how my atheism was such a horrible thing. I told her I felt the same way about her god and religion. We barely talk anymore.
