How do people around you and perhaps a stranger or two KNOW you have empathy , the most important human skill? See my answer below

Empathy is a good character trait to possess, and it is instrumental in my motivation to be kind to others, but there is certainly no need to advertise my capacity for it. The malignant narcissist I was married to for 17 years used it as a means for abuse. Lesson learned. I tend to be more of a covert empath, these days.

Do you realise that Jesus made a BIG difference to the world by displaying massive empathy. I am not evangelising {please believe me). I have hidden what I would LIKE to do for fear of many things, but sometimes it is difficult to contain.
Sorry if you do not have anyone who really appreciates you because of bad experiences.

Nearly impossibie.....as an admirer of the trait in others....I look for it, and usually with skepticism.. ...empathy, like trust, is hard to give freely. ...I think in todays world, its hard to "know"

With all the" coming out" for various changes that are happening in society, why not plan A Coming-Out party with yor friends and family to make your undoubted talents a tiny bit more obvious. Nomination for "CraZY IdEa" of the decade?

@Mcflewster you lost me at "undoubted talents", and for the rest, no motivation, or energy.

@HankSherman Thank you for your request to clarify. SORRY ABOUT MY CRAZY IDEA. You do have a tendency to underestimate your abilities though . You are a good chap. No S***.

@Mcflewster lol...that is absolutely a first time experience for me....being called a "good chap"....nicest thing enyone has called me in years....makes an ole man feel good all over. Very appreciated

Should I care 🙂

Varn Level 8 Mar 22, 2020

If you do not care who comes to your funeral, NO

@Mcflewster It’s a bit late for those to show they care, at my funeral. I’d rather not have a funeral, those who care about me contact or seek me out ‘now,’ as I do them.

@Varn Some funeral parlours run "Living Funerals" before the customer's demise where everyone praises what you were and ARE. Presumably while you are standing in the pulpit

@Mcflewster Yuck 😀

I do Not have empathy & in most cases studiously avoid it! Too much STUPID!

In my book, and obviously not in yours, LACK of empathy = EVIL

@Mcflewster whatever.....

@AnneWimsey indeed . I live with it, meaning whatever.

A lot of spontaneous empathy - it is called altruism - is happening here in the UK I suspect you will "go with the flow' when it arrives in the US . Good luck whatever..

@Mcflewster Sorry to break into the conversation, but a lack of empathy can be seen as a force for survival. Just because someone needs help does not mean that you help them. For Example, a person ahead of you in line does not have enough money to buy food for their family. They are going through the food to return while leaving the cigarettes on the table, I do not help them as I will not pay for their bad habits, Had they taken the cigarettes off the table and left the food and still not had enough I would pay for what they needed. A person is drowning, I do not swim, I do not jump into the water to save them, I yell and try to get help for them.

@dalefvictor Compulsion is NEVER in my book but it is really sad that some people do not have the KNOWLEDGE how they can be helped . Knowledge is useful as a healer in itself meaning that lots of people actually deserve to have it It is carrying it through that is not compulsory.

I am sure that you would see that a life saving belt or floating ring was available next time you visted the waterside. A dead smoker is not one up for anyone. Free food is sometimes necessary as long as no one has to depend on it . LOTS of food is actually wasted.

Just to be clear, I have certification in Energency Response & CPR for babies, adults, dogs & cats. Instead of blasttng away about my "empathy"[ I am prepared to save lives. I would be much happier to see me, or someone like me, in an emergency than a "holier than thou" with no skills, which are quite easy to come by, actually....but you keep flapping yer gums about how "empathy" will help you if you can't breathe, or your heart stops.....

@AnneWimsey I do not have these skills as you have. Once I was in a situation where a person at work was having problems. I immediately called 911 and did all I could to make her comfortable until they got to the shop. That was scary as I thought this person was having a heart attack. They spent some time in the hospital and were fine.

It can be seen and felt in how one treats another, e.g. actively listening, asking questions instead of just talking about one's self, allowing someone to cut in front of you if they're in a hurry. Someone without much empathy would probably not recognize it though.

If you were in a dark cinema you would often see evidence of tears if you look hard. Otherwise not much evidence. At the best of times I have tears because I have a blockage in my tear draining system, but Niagra at certain films and certain times. Have to adjust before the lights go up!

Sorry are those tear drops or earrings - eyes not what they once were.
