There definitely is a subset of the population that thinks that life without a certain amount of money is meaningless and they find it incomprehensible that others do not see it that way.

Actually it seems like the administration of Texas is nuts, have been for some time. Perhaps the next election will bring things back towards sanity, perhaps not.
