One thing I love about living in Wisconsin...many hunters and local farms. My old friend grew up in a family full of hunters and my cousin is a farmer. It's so sad that many local farms are going under because of factory farming taking over. The factory farming industry is so horrific. I know that the population is sky-rocketing and many people eat meat. Which is why factory farming is booming even more now (they produce many many more product than local farms do). And the number of hunters have gone down in Wisconsin, even though there's still quite a bit of them.
I believe the animals are treated much better in local farms and it's ethically and morally better. Same goes for hunting. Also, take a drive out into the country in Wisconsin and you'll see many farms with cows freely able to roam, along with other animals. I try to only buy produce, such as meat products, from local farms here. And eat deer when I can.
The entire food industry is completely fucked from top to bottom and NEEDS to be reworked. I started buying from our Co-op a few years ago, mostly meat, but also fruits and veg when I can. It's more expensive, which has led me to eating less meat, but I like helping small farmers. And I swear it tastes so much better. There's sadly a law here that prevents people from hunting deer and I say sadly because they're like fucking locusts.
My ex, an avid Hunter (we ate nothing but game!) used to say "deer are the fruit flies of game animals"
