This article is misleading but still important to look at. IMF and World Bank cancel debts for poorer countries. Following is a disclaimer.
“Regarding the IMF, the IMF isn't calling for all debt to be cancelled, or even all IMF debt to be canceled. They are using the "Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust", a fund set up in the wake of Ebola to allow partial debt forgiveness in the event of pandemics, to cancel 6 months of debt payments for 25 very poor countries (totaling about $500 million, or about 0.25% of the total amount the IMF has in loans to all countries at the moment). This has largely exhausted the CCRT, and the IMF has called for about a billion dollars in new funding to continue to deal with the corona virus crisis as it evolves, but they are not doing this because they feel that the loans to this countries were "wrong" or "predatory", but rather because they understand that given current circumstances it is best to lose a few months of debt payments rather than to force a default.“

One possible problem with debt forgiveness is that the lenders might not be so quick in the future to give more loans.
The IMF and the World Bank are all predatory lenders which forces huge amounts of austerity upon governments enriching the wealthy and the politicians while indenturing the people of the country to greater and greater poverty!!!
Huh, sounds like an admission to me. the last part of the sentence is TRUE in any circumstances......doesn't make them not-predatory, however.
