Astronomers discover the closest black hole to Earth — and you can see it with the naked eye Astronomers have discovered a new black hole, and it's practically in our backyard. Researchers say the black hole is just 1,000 light-years away from Earth — closer to our solar system than any other found to date. CONT.. ON LINK
This is what DC looks like right now.
Black holes drag in material and spew it out as radiation. Is that what DC is doing?
@rogerbenham Right, drag and spew especially 'spew.'
If we are roughly 50,000 light years from the galaxy centre then what on earth, I mean galaxy, is a black hole doing far closer to us?
yes ! That is an amazing thought. They are way more common than previously thought of.
@AmmaRE007 More than a 1000 years ago a massive star at that distance burned out and collapsed in on itself. Then the question is did it form a sufficiently large field to drag other stars into itself or is just pulling in small stuff?
So what are our chances of getting sucked in? Asking for a friend.......
Well we can't move at anything like the speed of light and we'd most likely move in a slow vortex around it for many thousand years. Nothing to lose sleep over.
Your friend travels at the speed of light and can live over 1000 years ? Tell your friend go 180° away from that hole ....don't waste a long life alone on a starship
