I did not know the U.S. had a dollar coin.I just bought gas and my change was $1.50 and I got an American dollar coin,I only noticed when I got home.We have dollar coins (and two dollar coins)here in Canada in our regular currency and this U.S. dollar looks the same as ours.We often get quarters, dimes and nickels as they also look the same as ours and we used to get pennies also but we got rid of it a few years ago.
if you go to a post office and use the vending machine for stamps, the change comes in dollar coins.
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one or more of those. I have a $2 bill locked away in my safe
They never caught on over here. When I used to go to Canada, they solved it by just eliminating dollar bills. $2 bills are actually in circulation, the public just refuses to use them as with the $1 coin. The Loonie looks distinctive. $1 US coin is too close to a quarter in size and people don't like them.
For some reason the dollar coin never took hold in the US. Millions would have been saved. The average dollar bill last about 13 months. The coin about 30-40 years.
Of course we have become a more cashless society then when the first coins were issued.
Paper dollars should simply be withdrawn from circulation. People would have to use the coins. Pennies might as well be discontinued also for all they’re worth.

I agree.
I also agree.
