I see little evidence that citizens in the US have sufficient intelligence or sufficiently capable leadership in place to pull together and implement something like this, but eventually (maybe after a lot more people are dead) maybe we'll try some of the measures here.

Our not pulling together is what free people do. Or, pulling together is not what free people do.
IMO
The claims here in this thread.... that the law or the nature of people in the US prevent coherent smart response to a threat to millions of US lives .... these claims are nonsense. The equating of freedom and individual liberty with a shallow surface-level understanding of legal and social matters is more part of the intellectual bankruptcy issue I was mentioning, and not anything to do with how our legal framework has been set up or how we have responded to past such threats.
One minor example: the idea that one's individual liberty is under attack because a local or broader law is put into place to deal with a health emergency, to require wearing of masks under some circumstances.... the idea that this is somehow contradictory of basic US legal and social principles.... is incorrect. A non-intellectually-bankrupt society of "free" people would, by and large, understand this without too much difficulty.
@kmaz the Northeast is doing quite well nowadays...maybe others will take notice? At a distance, of course, we quarantine anybody coming here!
@AnneWimsey
Yes I’ve been glad to see some attempt by the northeast to put their foot down. Relatively speaking they have done better than some others in the us in the face of the emergency, particularly considering that the president of the USA and his allies and supporters have been so powerful in their massively destructive anti-rational-virusresponse since January.
Still, overall, the net sum response of all 330 million of us has been a conspicuous fail. At this point we have how many who have contracted the virus? And how many who will be on the verge of starvation or other financial calamity while they have to figure out a way to make money even as the pandemic continues? Several other countries have shown us that indeed the virus can be addressed, at least to a much better extent than we have done
We,(current admin) couldn't find our butts with three hands.
"The wearing of masks has become a catalyst for political conflict, an arena where scientific evidence is often viewed through a partisan lens. Most Democrats support the wearing of masks, according to a poll conducted by researchers at the Pew Research Center.
"Most Republicans do not. The Republicans are following the lead of the president: Trump has been reluctant to wear a mask, saying that it did not seem right to wear one while he was receiving heads of state at the White House. He put a mask on in public for the first time during a visit to a military hospital earlier this month.
The battle over masks has escalated during the final weeks of the campaign season. The general election is in November, and activists in both parties, Republican and Democrat, are working feverishly to ensure victory at the polls. Some of them have faced off on the issue of masks: as Timothy Akers, a public-health professor at Morgan State University, a historically black college in Baltimore, says: "We're seeing politics and science literally crashing."
"The dispute over masks embodies the political dynamics of the campaign. It also reflects a classic American struggle between those who defend public safety and those who believe just as deeply in personal liberty."
Why would a government like the US that is owned by the wealthy and their corporations be really concerned about you and me when we can not produce enough profit for greed and power hungry dominion that they want too and are now forcing down our throats wholesale!!!
Don't blame the citizens of the US. Blame the President of the United States. We will get through this stronger than ever. I love my country. The whole far east has done well with testing, contact tracing and isolation. That would've been successful here if we had any leadership at the top. 2021 may be a great year for our country. It all depends on what happens in November.
@jorj uuummmm, what?
@jorj too much BS in one post to even know where to begin.....
@jorj you are so full of misinformation it is pathetic. Oh, wait, willful misinformation is called LIES. And BTW I was pretty much the only female in a shipyard 9f 20,000 men for 13 years, rose to Supervisor despite hatred/fear of many of them, so your threatening me with being an even bigger "serious asshole" is freakin' funny as hell.
