Some years ago a friend who is married to an Episcopalian minister asked me if I was a church goer. With a laugh, I replied that I'm a heathen. She deadpanned that there are a lot of those in their congregation. (She's a good person.) One thing that gets to me is hypocrisy - from any quarter really. But it seems particularly crazy-making from so-called Christians.

Really I don't believe in Christianity

I take offence at that term “heathen” being synonymous with “ hypocrisy “ . Aboriginal beliefs, whether North American,Australian, Druid etc. , are more spiritual than any Christian belief!

What confuses me is the day, Sunday! The Lord didn't exactly go, day one done, I shall call it Monday, or did he? so why Sunday? why not Monday? I am not too keen on Mondays.

I think a lot of people who go to church every week do it because it makes them believe they are good people. It's less about spirituality and more about personal validation and patting themselves on their backs.

Part of Episcopalian doctrine, so I've been told, is that their faith is "a" path to God, not "the" path to God.

I've known a lot of people who would say they can't do anything on sunday because it's the lords day and it must be kept holy. If you wanted to find them on this holy day, you would find them at the local bar shooting pool, playing poker and drinking. They really kept the day holy.

i pretty much loathe people who say they "don't work on sunday"

@SeeCanU meh, I don't usually work on sundays. I do need some time off.

@engineer_in_nj lol... i didn't mean i loathe people who don't work 7 days a week. everybody needs time off but occasionally i need help on sunday. i meant that one who refuses to work on sunday no matter how much they worked during the week or what days they have off.

I never understood how a day could be holy. Even as a credulous kid, I imagined that if there were a god, he'd be out in the universe somewhere amidst all the galaxies and stars and planets. From up there, what does "Sunday" even mean? What does "Sunday" look like from outer space? What significance does a 7 day week even have outside our social constructs? Doesn't make sense.

If you look up hypocrisy in the dictionary it says 'see Christians.'

I find it disturbing how most religious people think, and most are total hypocrites!

Why would a heathen go to church?

why do people who hate each other stay married? Why do people go to jobs that they hate? Why do people stay in areas that they don't want to live in?

I don't know why people stay together who are married, to be honest, and the other 2 are about money so I say again why would a heathen go to church?

Because said heathen thinks it's the "respectable" thing to do. However, in reality, the person is a hypocrite and a long way from, what some people would describe as, christian values.

oh, I get it going for a family for a funeral, wedding etc. I don't get going just anyway.

Agreed. They hide within the safety of the flock, adding to its numbers and increasing the bold aggression of it’s leader. They haven’t the courage to speak up, and would likely stand silently by as ‘one of us’ were done in… Glad I was the pup of wolves ~
