Former Trump Campaign Manager Brad Parscale has been involuntarily hospitalized after a call was made to police claiming that he intended to harm himself.

Police surrounded his home and eventually talked him into coming out unarmed. He began to calmly speak with an officer and was promptly tackled to the pavement with almost no warning.

I very much do not like this person. Even so, when I watch this video, the violence with which they treated him seems uncalled for. He was clearly unarmed, making no sudden movements, was not speaking in a threatening manner, and was showing that he was willing to communicate and cooperate. Had the officers informed him that they would need to take him into custody for his own safety, he may have complied without incident, if not, it would then have been appropriate to use force. The incredulity in his voice as he whines "I didn't do anything" is very understandable. I think most people would react that way.

It is very telling that even a white male former campaign manager of a sitting president is treated in such a violent manner based on nothing more than a phone call. For those who do not have such privilege, these sorts of encounters can often end much more tragically.

It seems crazy to me that the response to people who may be in mental crisis is to send armed men trained to treat them as a threat. I understand that the man is an owner of firearms and therefore, the authorities must take necessary precautions, but perhaps a mental health professional would be better able to handle these sorts of incidents without resorting to violence. I hope the guy gets the help he needs.

Anyone who thinks that BLM protestors are just being silly has no understanding of the kind of scary world we all live in! The guy couldn't have been less threatening...hardly even clothed!

What is not reported is the fact that a person in this state of mind...is in great psychic pain! They are already ‘cornered’ and this kind of intervention just adds to the psychic pain memory that will have to be worked out later...just added on ptsd! Ignorance in a modern society with advanced scientific knowledge! Which shows me...that it is violence that is the objective!

Jeez, he took him down like Rand Pauls neighbor!

I don't believe this was "voluntary". Doesn't look like a volunteer to me.

I didn't do anything! boohoo

Absolutely, this is an injustice, in my opinion! But, it looks as if we are loosing the ability to know ‘justice!’ I agree a mental health professional should have made this call and the police there in case things got out of hand!

They're also drugging them with ketamine.
The cops call EMTs, and when they arrive, they want the individual shot up with the drug.
They do it to knock the person out.
They've killed people with it.

The police are doing more and more to make their jobs easier.
They aren't much interested in de-escalating. They just want to knock the person out so they don't have to deal with them.

I've heard about that, it's insane. Anesthesiologists say it's way to dangerous and unnecessary.

Cops always choose force over de-escalation.

Yeah, it started out as a horse tranquilizer but has been approved for use in humans. Not, however, in such circumstances. It's only safe when administered in a hospital by an anesthesiologist.

His house was filled with multiple guns, assault weapons and ammunition.

Police did not know if he was armed.

Police confiscated 10 guns from his home after he attempted suicide:

Yep.

@K9Kohle789

I agree that they didn't need to tackle him. It must have hurt to be slammed down on the cement without a shirt. That was unneeded violence by the police.

But he could have had a gun in the back waistband of his shorts.

@K9Kohle789

Good point.

I was trained to take enemy prisoners of war into custody. They are people who also have weapons and motivation to kill you. In the process, you order them to the ground with their arms extended to their sides and ankles crossed. Even in an active combat zone, the violence shown here is unnecessary. As long as they keep their hands in view, they aren't going to surprise you with a concealed weapon.

When asked about an enemy soldier drawing a weapon to shoot us, our instructor said, "Nobody can outdraw a man who already has a weapon aimed at them."

I think he threatened...attempted means he hurt himself! Which he had not!

@JimG

You can't outdraw someone who is already drawn. Good point.

If he were black, he'd be dead...

True enough! Another mental patient would bit the dust!

And damn good thing he wasn't asian.

@Freedompath I did not!
