When did we here in the U.S. start using the word queue instead line. I read and hear more and more about people being in a queue and not in a line. I donโt mind using queue, I just wish that there were some kind of an official notice that we were going to do this.
What drives me nuts is when meeting organizers misuse the word STACK to mean QUEUE. It's the infiltration of programming terminology into our general language.
Ohferpetessake...it was in the memo on "emoji"........
I don't use queue unless speaking about computer or device memory..
From where comes the notion that US language remotely approximates 'official' ?
To my knowledge, ''queue'' hasn't yet become officially POLITICALLY CORRECT.....so, use whichever you wish!
I will thank you.
Line can be misinterpreted. For instance, the military form a line on parade. One can draw a line on paper. One can draw a (figurative) line at a behaviour. One can line dance. None of these convey the sense of a queue.
Oh there are so many English words that could be misinterpreted.
@Omnedon "Gender'' isn't nearly as much fun.
@LucyLoohoo I Fancy a night of hot gender lacks something.
Iโm British ...weโve always used queue here!
Of course you have.
@Sierra4 Yes...weโre known as a nation of queuers! I had to check that was spelled correctly!
@Marionville Hate to offend the heteros, eh?
@Petter I did a double take after I typed it out!
@Petter Surprised ''spell check'' didn't want to fix it for her!
@LucyLoohoo I overruled it!
