Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family has said.
The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.
His acting career spanned decades and his many awards included an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes.
Sir Sean's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.
NPR this morning was doing a report of James Bond movies and I instantly knew the great 007 was with us (Dr.) No more. He was not only the first but, in my mind, the best Bond ever.
Yes...he was. I just posted an item about him in News & Links.
I never liked him and I'm glad he's gone.
I'm kind of bitchy that way.
That is rather sad and is not bitchy but brutal!
@Marionville I also hated Elvis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Wayne, OJ even when he was popular and Michael Jackson. Musically I'm more of a fan of David Burn (Talking Heads) and Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull). For acting I like actors (people that aren't the same person in every role), like Gary Oldman for example.
I found James Bond (all of them) to be indicators of extreme hypocrisy in a society that frowns on sexual promiscuity yet their heroes were always able to walk into a room full of people of the opposite sex and seduce them all.
I'm disgusted by pretty much every "Alpha Male" stereotype.
I'm not easier on women either, never being a fan of a Marilyn Monroe or Raquel Welsh, favoring people like Betty White. I love Hedy Lamarr, she was brilliant.
I really love people that have something significant to say.
Sorry but Connery never said anything worthwhile.
I also come here to freely state my opinions, so I'm just being honest.
@Willow_Wisp I’m not referring to whether you liked or loathed him ...that’s your prerogative, and is not really pertinent to list people you actually do like. It’s saying you’re glad someone is gone (dead) which I find somewhat brutal, and I reserve my right to think and say so. You actually have no idea what Sean Connery believed or stood for. Outside of his roles in movies, when he was in fact speaking someone else’s words, he had plenty to say on other issues. I admire him because he was at the forefront of the campaign for an independent Scotland and that he donated most of his earnings to Scottish charities in his latter years.
@Marionville See we're all entitled to our opinions
I'm still glad....
He was three years younger than my mom. I had such a crush on him when I was younger, his appeal was ageless. He made bald sexy. I hope it was simply old age and not COVID that ended it all.
I just posted an item about him in News and Links.
