Sadly so....I posted a short obit yesterday. He and I were both Scots, who were born and raised in Edinburgh.

Great actor, apparently a very nice man too. He was on the cover of the first edition of The Big Issue that I ever brought, up in Scotland

He was a great ambassador for Scotland and at the forefront of the Scottish Independence movement. For that reason the Blair Labour government opposed his knighthood...until it couldn’t be denied him any longer and he was knighted by the Queen in 2000.
And so the icons of our childhoods thus pass away ...
