The puritans tried to ban it. Cromwell in this country even placed a ban on Christmas Pudding, and Hot Cross Buns, at Easter.

No No! not the hot cross buns! 😁

True, he actually did that PLUS numerous other ridiculous things were banned as well.

Ah yes, good old Ollie Cromwell, he made even a Mormon's Wedding look like a Bacchanalian Feast.
