Holy shit! This is escalating quickly as it's congress who verify the electoral votes.
If the case is heard by SCOTUS they will have little choice (in the majority) but to remedy the fraudulent outcome of the election not as a remedy for who won, but for our compromised, corrupted democratic system. This was a hideously corrupted process and they've been caught. If Biden doesn't prevail, lots of people are going to jail.
repugs (and conservatives in general) have always wanted a dictatorship.
Hell, goofy bush 2nd even said so- "I like the idea of a dictatorship- as long as I'm the dictator."
Funny that.
All the dictators of the world the past 80 years have all been left wing socialists and communists.
Not a single conservatives dictator since very long ago.
Where is the bottom of the current Political insanity?
I think there have been more than a few who have been dismissive of the situation, as though once Biden was elected this would all go away. But this is a democracy, and there is a tendency to point fingers at the lightning rod people in power rather than at ourselves as voters, but there is enough American stupid out there that it is possible this attempted coup by Trump will succeed. If it does, then I think that is the end of the US as we know it. If it doesn't, I'm not sure what will become of us, since we as a team of 330m people have shown our true colors as being that beleaguered by our issues.
It is NOT a Democracy in any shape nor form when the Encumbent Leader and his supporting Party refuse/deny the Will of the People in ANY election, it IS, imo, nothing less than Tyranny, Dictatorship, etc, etc.
DEMOCRACY as per definition IS the Government/Rule of the People, BY the People and For the People NOT, the Government/Rule of the Many, By the Few and For the Few.
@powder Precisely. The United States of Absurdity 'claims;' itself to be a Democracy but in truth it is NOT, it is a Republic and NO known Republic has EVER been nor ever will BE a True and 100% Democracy.
And, even though U.S. citizens WILL always vehemently deny it, your Founding Fathers based, loosely, their ideologies, etc, for the Republic of the U.S.A. mainly upon the Ancient Roman Republic.
I think Triphid did a nice job of ruining a chance that this part of the thread would contain clear rational thinking. I'm not sure if that's what they were going for, but I think it's what they accomplished.
In any event, yes, what I was going for, and what I think is a basic and defensible idea here, was just simply that in a system such as ours where we each (to this point) can vote and speak freely to fellow voters and try to persuade them, then each of us bears some responsibility for what happens.
@kmaz No intention in "ruining a chance for this part of thread....."
Just stating historical FACTS, that is all.
In my honest opinion, your system is absurd at its very best, for example,
a) you are NOT required to vote and yet when things are done that you do NOT agree with YOU start complaining and moaning.
Should it not be that to ACTUALLY have a say, i.e. a vote, then and ONLY then are you given the right to complain, etc, etc?
b) Your entire country is run by 1 single person, the President, is it not?
He/she ( if ever a woman gets elected that is) holds sway over ALL Policies, etc, etc, ergo the President is NOT a Leader in the truest sense of the word, BUT little more than an Emperor, Dictator, Oligarchy or even, in the case of tRump, a wanna be Despotic Tyrant.
c) to make changes, imo, it takes far, far more than being yet another Keyboard Warrior or Protester, ergo, get out there, have your vote, make your voice be heard in PUBLIC and NOT behind the safety and security of your closed doors.
