This was an article I typed on another platform about the FireFox web browser. Hope it's useful-
FIREFOX BROWSER ADD-ONS:
This post is an extension of my previous one about scareware and malvertising, and while this list of add-ons for the Mozilla FireFox Browser is certainly not comprehensive, they are some of the basic add-ons every FireFox user should have to preserve some degree of anonymity and block malicious content. After much trial and error experimentating with many mobile web browsers, I find FireFox modified with certain add-ons offers the optimal browsing experience, with the browsers Armorfly and Qwant not far behind. FF strikes a balance mobile and desktop users alike want in a web browser- free to download and use with no in-app ads or paid upgrades, offers much customization, fully functional native app settings minus any add-ons, and designed with user privacy in mind. With that said, here are a few add-ons you might want to look into if FF is the web browser of your choice-
Adblock Plus- The first on my list as this add-on blocks just about all forms of advertising, but yet still gives a user the option of letting show some non-intrusive ads and a white list for sites that you trust that use ads. Malicious sites are also blocked most of the time, and most pop-up ads that could contain malicious coding never have a chance to show.
Bluhell Firewall- Another lightweight adblocker that also prevents ad trackers from tracking your device location and blocking some cookies.
Download Virus Checker- Checks all downloads made by FF for any malware and viruses. Very similar to an anti-virus.
Privacy Badger- Protects a user from ad trackers and cookies, and works right away without any preconfiguring.
Fraudscore- Blocks potential malware while keeping personal information safe. This add-on is particularly useful for those who are afraid of visiting a malware infected site that could steal and or encrypt for ransom personal data on the device.
Those are just a handful of useful add-ons that I personally use and could verify they work like they advertise. Individual needs vary though, so not every user would require simultaneous use of all those mentioned above, perhaps just one content blocker and a download checker would suffice. FF is highly customizable with many user preferences and optional add-ons, making this browser an ideal one for those looking to stay at least somewhat anonymous and secure while web surfing, as there is no such thing as one hundred percent private while online. If I come across any other add-ons worth mentioning, I will post on it here in the comments.
Ugh. I so totally see the value of this post and the information you're sharing but computer lingo always feels more foreign than other languages. I'm adding this as a favorite and will use it as a resource whenever I get into the right situation/personally feel ready to tackle it.
Thank you for posting your expertise and trying to protect your community!
My pleasure. Knowledge is power, and knowing what you're up against is half of the battle, and I know quite a bit in the fields of cyber security and mobile device privacy. If you needed help with anything, please feel free to message me. I'm honored to hear you bookmarked this post to your favorites, the first person to bookmark any of my posts to my knowledge, and I thank you for that.
This won't be the last bookmark you get, I'm sure. cyber security and mobile device privacy are pretty relevant and your article is well-written/concise. when I am ready to tackle these things, I will let you know. Lucky me!
@crazycurlz Somehow I missed your last comment here, thank you for that compliment.
